Applying For An Actors Job
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 15:44The whole reason for doing this was because, not only to get it up to date so it looks better, but also because I want it done for a potential employer to see when they go there to take a look.
You see, I have applied for a job here in town that will pay $55/hour for 40 hours a week and the position is an Actor. I did some research and I believe the character I would be playing is a chef. I figure since I was actually a Chef before and Acting has always been one of my secret dream jobs, that I would give it a shot.
They’re looking for somebody with 7 months to a year worth of experience. I don’t have any professional experience and there wasn’t any other real expectations listed on the job ad that would take me out of the running for the job.
I figure that Life is an experience in itself, especially when a lot of things we do requires a little bit of acting right? For example, calling in sick for work, telling somebody a story and so on, and having them believe you is a form of acting is it not?
Since I’ve did some crazy videos in the past, they can view them and hopefully they can see the type of personality I have and just how creative I really am before they toss my application aside based on the lack of experience in the professional field that I have.
I’ve checked out their web site and watched some of the videos they have done, and I have to admit, the talent that I have seen isn’t really all that great In My Opinion. I actually said to myself that I could actually do better.
Not only would getting a job like this be a life changing experience financially, but it will also fill in that void that was once a dream turned fantasy as I got older.
I know it’s a long shot, and I really hope they take me serious, despite how crazy the videos are that I linked to. I believe that as long as they give me the opportunity to show my stuff, they’ll be glad they gave me the chance and realize I do have the potential to perform in front of their cameras.
Here is what they posted:

So. I would love it it everybody sent me some of their ‘Good Mojo’ this way so I may land this job.
*crossing fingers*

Hi,
Just out of interest, did they ask you to watch their show and write a test?
macbros says:
December 29th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
@Jen: No. But I did watch a few of their videos. No test writing though.
Why do you ask? Are you familiar with them?

I am sooooo proud of you for trying to get this job. It does seem right up your alley. Sounds like it would be for commercials or business educational films, and you’re like an every-man sorta guy. Very relatable. Lots of mojo coming your way

@skyetrueheart: Thanks! I figure it’s worth a shot right. I would be kicking my ass if I saw that job posting too late and never got the chance to apply.
I believe it’s going to be for a cooking web site.
Thanks for the Mojo!

Just a heads up. I strongly believe this job posting is a scam. I applied for an editing job with them and was asked to write a test with some questions that can only be answered by watching the 5 DVDs they have for sale.
The hyperlink in the question directs you to the purchasing page for the DVDs, implying that you have to purchase them for the test.
I wrote to them an email (three days ago) to confirm whether or not this was true and have not yet received an answer.
macbros says:
January 1st, 2010 at 10:53 pm
@brad: Well, after your comment I read the e-mail I got from them. They say they cannot provide a script, but tell you to view their trailers from the web site to write your own script. They do tell you to use a special code when ordering a DVD if you do… But doesn’t say you HAVE to.
They also added an audition DOC file of the locations for auditions.
There is no mention of a test that you speak of.
I’ll go with the FREE Trailer they have on their web site and use that.
I have an Audition invitation for the end of the month.

macbros says:

Aparently this is a scam.
The trailer I mentioned above doesn’t have the middle parts that is needed for the audition.
After reading the e-mail again, the part where they say they cannot provide a script it comes off as a little odd. Why Not?
I’ll be sending a message to the Government Job Bank that it was posted on. This is just wrong.

@Skye: Yea, what a bummer huh? Really disappointing.
My cousins husband works for a movie type company and he says that there is a lot of scams out there like this. And judging by the other commenters, this is obviously a scam.
skyetrueheart says:

That doesn’t have to put an end to your dream, though. Start getting some experience now by trying out for local theater. That way, you’ll have some real acting experience when something legit comes along.

i think is definitely a scam…. they are looking for 7 production teams (director, camera, editor, sound, etc).. according to the job salary they mention… it would cost around $235,000 to pay the production team yearly… now.. if they have 7 teams.. its a totall of $1,645,000 per year…
i don’t think they can make that amount of money just from selling cooking dvds… and that is just to pay employees, they also need their profit.. so probably we’re talking about 3+ millions per year
macbros says:
January 5th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
@drunken: Wow! You’ve done some really good math calculations there. If you’re correct here, this whole thing wouldn’t be able to even get started.
I wonder how many people fall for this and end up getting the job, doing the work and then not get paid when the whole production is finished.
Damn! that would really suck!:eyebrow:

Thats all a shame. I would love to get into acting. But they say if sounds to good. Then its too good to be true. But what turned me off most ly is that I would have to watch comercials and write a script. I am not a writer. I can act very good but mostly I am a musician. Bummers….
macbros says:

@Mike: Exactly. I’m not a writer either.

Hi Guys.
Thanks for posting. I was also interesting in the acting position since I have a background as an actress for theatre and I just recently graduated with my B.F.A in drama. They have my resume and my headshot…I hope they don’t use it to do anything with it.
I still get an e-mail from them saying more information about the audition.

I went to the clip, it has nothing to use for actors. Thank you Charlie for your post. I’m not going to go to the audition since I don’t want to waste my time on something like this. Thanks for the heads up. Macbros I’m not sure if you’re in Alberta, but if you are they have the CSIF society which I belong to. I get e-mails about auditions from them as well as other film related information. If they have something like that I encourage you to join since it helps connects a actor to getting and building up your portfolio. I’m currently taking a break from acting as I might return to my first education of photography, but I was told by my acting teachers to get a proper agent and build your portfolio if you want to get into acting.
I hope you reach your dreams

@Victoria: I just got that same exact e-mail about 10 minutes ago. LOL
I’m actually in New Brunswick and have basically done away with this whole opportunity. There is just too many things that seem out of place than there is that make sense.
To many comments from others saying it’s a scam, and a comment from somebody who actually worked with them that basically tell me to keep away. Then there is the Domain info that points to a townhouse that the financial costs to produce these videos is out of the question also says scam all over it.
I really hope that nobody shows up and gets scammed by these crooks.
