Canadian National Anthem In Hindi @ 2010 Olympics?
Sunday, May 31, 2009 21:00 | 2,648 viewsFrom my in-box:
This is forwarded at the request of Comrade Dave Flannigan, President of The Royal Canadian Legion, Newfoundland and Labrador.
As you can see I have forwarded it to you my friends and our MHA. Enough is enough. If they don’t like Canada the way it is, then maybe its time to go wherever they call home.
Bruce Allen is on the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Committee and new Canadians (specifically Hindi’s/Indian’s) want him fired for his recent comments outlined below:
I am sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Hindi at the 2010 Olympics- enough is enough. Nowhere or at no other time in our Nation’s history, did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek, or any other language because of immigration. It was written in English, adapted into French, and should be sung word for word the way it was written.
The news broadcasts even gave the Hindi version translation – which was not even close to our National Anthem. I am not the least bit sorry if this offends ANYONE, this is MY COUNTRY; My Grand Dad served in the military, other family members also served, as well as my wife & I served a combined total of 56 years between us. We made many sacrifices for our country and do not feel we should feel obligated to allow invited people we’ve welcomed with open arms to influence & change our society to better resemble the one they chose to leave to come here!!! – IF YOU AGREE ABOUT THIS GREAT COUNTRY, SPEAK UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE
– please pass this along .
I am not against immigration. In fact I believe we need more, my ancestors were immigrants — just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the Rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past — and LONG LIVE CANADA!’
It’s time we all get behind Bruce Allen, and scrap this Political Correctness His comments were anything but racist, however, there are far too many overly sensitive ‘New Canadians’ that are attempting to change everything we hold dear.
ARE you PART OF THE PROBLEM ??? Think about this: If you don’t want to forward this for fear of offending someone, will we still be the Country of Choice and Still be CANADA if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries who have come to live in CANADA because it is the Country of Choice??????
Think about it!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT CANADIAN’S, MUST ADAPT.
It’s Time for CANADIANS to speak up.. If you agree ? Pass this along; if you don’t agree?
Delete it and reap what you sew because of your complacency!
Ian Walsh
WOW! Somebody really needed to vent, but I agree with them 100% We need to preserve out roots and not let others change our ways.
Long Live Canada!

I couldn’t have said it better!

This entire story is COMPLETELY FALSE. It is based on an equally false email that circulated in the US a few years ago about “The Star-Spangled Banner” being translated into Spanish.

Also, Bruce Allen never said the comments attributed to him above.

OK. Well it was believable enough to have me search out what it sounded like and I did find a version that was in Hindi. It sounded Awful.
I would link to it but don’t want to waste my time trying to find it. It is out there. Honest!
I guess the post was believable because the government and event organizers are always pulling shit like this so it wasn’t surprising.

You all come from immigrants, do you really think you were the first people here. If a song can be adapted to French from English then it can be adapted into any number of languages. Canada is the posterchild for multi-culturalism, Canada is the benchmark in what other countries strive to become. We are not the melting pot that is the United States where once you are in you are American and that is it!!! We celebrate our Multi-culturalism, if a group of people want to celebrate Canada by singing the National Anthem in their chosen language and you think this is wrong than you can’t call that anything other than racism!!! To say a person can’t do something because they don’t share the same cultural background as you is Racism. I’m First Nations, and we had to learn to adapt to immigrant culture. We’ve been adapting for almost 500 years. We’ve been adapting since your ancestors got off the boat and figured out what we Natives already knew, that this Country is AMAZING!!! No doubt you’ll take this as a personal attack and delete my comment, but I’m not calling you a racist. I think maybe you’re just afraid of changing times and this Canada is not the Canada you grew up in and remember.

@Moses Barlow – I would say something to that but I would sound racist, but lets just say, “Boomsticks, and firewater.” Don’t even get me started on the tax thing if you’re so adapted.
You might check out the other comments, as they point out this is just a rewrite from a snopes post, as pointed out by ‘r hennick‘..
But my personal opinion that everybody is entitled to, is that it being adapted to Hindi would still be very wrong. It was adapted into French simply because it’s a French English nation. And Immigrants need to adapt to the Canadian ways, not Canada adapt to their ways.
I didn’t delete you’re comment simply because I encourage arguments in this nature. It shows what people really think, and I’m not holding anything back.
But personal and direct attacks are not welcome here. Keep the arguments tasteful and they’ll be fine. Even if I disagree with the opinion.

Boomsticks and Firewater?? And I thought we were having an intelligent conversation. as for the tax issue, I pay my taxes like everyone else. Mind you I didn’t need to pay taxes up until a few years ago, but I’m adapting to this too. Times are changing my friend, get on the bus or stay at home!!!

I think that singing the national anthem should be sung in english or french at a venue that showcases canada, these are our official languages. If you want to sing it in hindi go ahead sing your hearts out,but do it at home.this country was built with immigrants and that is what we all are so how come if you didn’t like where your country of origin did you immigrate to the best country in the world and decide that now that you have graced us with your presence,we should sing our national anthem in a differant language other than the official languages,I can guarantee that if we wanted to sing the national anthem of India in english or french the people of India would be screaming bloody murder.so adapt or go back to where you came from,

At first I thought the idea of singing our national anthem in another language than English or French was a joke. Apparently not. The thought of another country even thinking of having the anthem sung in their language is lucridous. Not surprising, as some people think they can come to anothr country and then try to change it so it suits THEIR culture. Don’t like my comments——-too bad. Go back to your own country and sing that anthem.

I agree with many of you. If we wanted to sing another country’s anthem in English or french at a venue in their country, they would feel wronged just as we do. if you want to live in our great country then you need to adapt to our culture. not try to change it to reflect the country that you left. you left it to go somewhere new, maybe get away from a war or oppression, all your doing is ruining our country for us by creating all the problems that you left.

@ken dixon, A Maloney, and Chris: I feel the need that I should point out that this was one of them e-mails that were fake.
But that does bring a lot of your comments to show just how we would react if something like this were to actually happen though.
And the points a lot of you make about people leaving their country and coming here and to try and make it like the home they left sickens me also.
I know Canada was started by Immigrants and all. But there needs to be a line drawn sometime right?
This fine Country is fine just the way it is, and people need to stop trying to adjust it to their foreign cultures and costumes.
