Ahhhhh! Now THAT’S Better!

Thursday Jul 10, 2008

When to 32°C (89°F)  with a humidex of a gazillion degrees yesterday, I had to break down and buy a new Air Conditioner.

The heat was unbearable on top of being really sick. I was low on cash so I gave Other Mac and Scamp a call to see if they would give me a loan to buy one of the ones at Kent’s which is right close to them for $99, and if they  could pick one up for me.

Yup, so they did. I had it in yesterday, but I didn’t have any wood panels to put in the gaps, so I was using cardboard. The problem with that  is that I had to take it out of the window while I was at work, so nobody would just punch out the cardboard and crawl through the window.

Today, Mom and Dad dropped off some wooden boards that they had lying in the tool shed along with a couple of wooden dowels to put between the windows so they couldn’t be opened up all the way from the outside, again - another security feature. We cut the panels and screwed the air conditioner flaps to it so it is secure and snug.

It’s a good little bugger. Cools the place down in about a half hour to an hour, depending just how hot it was in the place before it was turned on. It does what it is supposed to and for it’s price. I am in a bachelor apartment and it’s great for this small place. Wouldn’t be any good for a larger place though.

The only downside is that it doesn’t have a timer or automatic temperature on/off function. It just has High and Low Cooling settings and a temperature control that just turns on and off the compressor when it reaches a temperature, but the fan still runs even though the cooling side is off. So that’s a bit of a bummer.

When the time comes, I’ll probably purchase another one that has a setting where it will turn on and off by itself and not be either on running all the time or off and not doing anything.

BUT AT LEAST I HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER NOW!!!!

And now my beer won’t sweat and get warm to fast now either! :D

Thanks Other Mac and Scamp!

Oh and Brain found a new bed from the packaging. You might catch him sleeping in it on the web cam.

I’m Not Used To This - God I Love This Job!

Wednesday Jul 9, 2008

It seems this new job just gives me more and more reasons why I love it so much!

Today at work I was (And still am) very ill. I was throwing up in the washroom a lot and shitting my guts out too. Without going into gory detail, lets just say I have the stomach flu and nothing wants to stay down or in. It’s going to come out of any opening it can find.

First off, I just want t o make a comparison to the old job and this new job. I suppose it’s not so new anymore because it’s been over a month. But anyway, If I were sick like this at the old job, they would still want you to get your ass in there. As long as you had a pulse, you could still work and continue busting your ass all night long despite being terribly ill. They wouldn’t give a shit how you felt and if you dropped dead, they would just push your corpse aside and continue on their way. Just as long as you did your share (and their share) of the work. In other words, you didn’t matter. You were just a pack mule slave.

Now on the other hand, I have my current job.

Apparently after puking my guts out I looked pretty shitty. What do you think?

Yea, I do look a little under the weather don’t I? I didn’t realize this till I got home and saw myself in the mirror. I must have popped some blood vessels in my eyes from the violent puking. Believe it or not, but I actually feel worse than I look in that picture.

They asked me if I wanted to go back home. I said that I didn’t want to have anybody pick up my slack, but they said it would be OK. I had almost everything ready for the day anyway, there was just a few things to prep up for tomorrow, and they also mentioned that they didn’t want anybody else to catch this stomach flu either, which I can understand.

I’m not used to this kind of reaction from people. It’s something that I’ve never experienced from the other Hell Hole. At the other place, I was on my own and it didn’t matter who caught what from who, and you just tried to make it through the shift no matter how much sicker you got.

Then when I agreed that I would go back home, they started telling me all these tips on what I should be doing when I got home. Things like drinking Gatorade and eating crackers to replace all the things I lose from all the puking and shitting. WOW! These people really care! Like I said, I’m not used to this.

If that weren’t enough, one of my co-workers said they would drive me home, because of the heat outside. (32°C 89°F). They said I shouldn’t be walking home in my condition. But wait! There’s more, she insisted she go into the Superstore and pick up some Gatorade and crackers for me! I felt kinda’ embarrassed from all this kindness. But I drew the line when she offered to carry the stuff into my place. I laughed and said that I was sick, not crippled, and I was very grateful for all her help and kindness.

Why wouldn’t anyone NOT want to work at this place?

At the other Hell Hole I used to get nauseous getting ready for work because I knew I was going to feel miserable all night long because I hated the job. When I would get sick, I had no problem calling in to tell them I was sick and wasn’t going in. This is something that I won’t ever do with this job though, because I have no reason to. I go in and have a great time and come home in the afternoon with plenty of energy left.

When I got home a gulped down a bottle of Gatorade and a few crackers after doing that thing on the toilet again. I turned on the TV (Daytime Television Sucks) and dozed off for a few hours.

Feeling a bit better now. I can still feel my innards rumble and churn though.

I wish I could shoot a video of my days on the job. Just to show you what takes place there. But there the thing with the confidentiality thingy I signed that won’t allow for that. Sorry. But I’m sure that just by the little info I’ve mentioned so far goes to tell you that it’s a great place to work, and everybody looks out for one another.

Well, this heat is getting pretty bad now. Hot and muggy. I got to get off this computer for awhile.

Go Outside! Are You Crazy??

Tuesday Jul 8, 2008

Talk about some scorching weather out right now. There’s no way I’m spending any time out there today. There’s absolutely no breeze at all and it’s currently 31°C (88°F).

Just can’t seem to get a happy medium this time of year. It’s either freezing cold and raining, or it’s scorching hot and humid.

Thankfully I’ve had the windows closed all day with the fan in the window in exhaust mode. It’s been sucking the air from inside out the window instead of blowing the hot outside air inside.

They have AC running at just $99 a pop now. Maybe I’ll grab myself one.

Enough With The Rain Already!

Sunday Jun 29, 2008

I’m all for a little rain every now and again, but this is ridiculous! It’s been raining for the past week now! OK, sure, there’s been a break in the rain every once in awhile, but I’m starting to forget what the sun feels like.

The long term forecast doesn’t look promising either as you can see from my desktop weather widget. I really, really, really hope that they are wrong about Tuesday though. Or at least wrong for Tuesday night so I can go watch the fireworks display for Canada Day. I would like to go there and take some video and pictures of the show.

There are a lot of events that are supposed to take place on Tuesday (Canada Day) too. There’s a block party, which you can watch on the web cam under the Officers Square cam, and maybe you’ll even catch the fireworks on the SJ River cam too.

I think we’ve had enough rain anyway. It’s cooling down a bit too much and it’s making things feel all damp all the time.

Anybody out there feel like taking away this gloomy weather? It’s yours if ya’ want it.

I’m Hot And Sweaty And Exhausted!

Monday Jun 23, 2008

And not in that good/fun way either.

There was a lot of gossiping going at work today and I just stayed clear and didn’t want to hear or get involved in it. Some people enjoy this kind of chatter, but not me, so I kept myself busy out back in the kitchen prepping things up for tomorrows dinner, soup and dessert. (Pizza casserole, Baked Potato Soup, and Banana Split Desserts if you must know) :D

I ended up keeping myself busy enough that it was the end of the day before I realized it. That’s always good IMO!

Anyway, I got home and waited for Pay Pal to deposit some moolah into my bank and as soon as it was in there, I headed off to the stores to pick up a few things. I ended up making three trips to the store because every time I went there to grab specific things I was side tracked into buying other things that I needed, but ended up forgetting the things I went in there to get in the first place. DOUGH!

Running back and forth with two armfuls of filled shopping bags in this heat and humidity tired the shit right out of me. Talk about getting ones exercise in such a short period of time. I think I lost a couple of pounds in the process, or at least sweated them off anyway. I’ll have to put them back on with a few beer calories this weekend again. :D

So, at the moment, I’m not going to do anything else. I was hoping to finish up a video I wanted to post today, but that isn’t going to happen it seems. Maybe next time. It’s actually a little video of my trek into work in the morning accompanied by my Theme song, “I Owe, I Owe…” that I recorded too. Also some Exclusive inside footage.

I guess I’ll watch Canadian Idol Idiot and see how good they’re getting. I wasn’t sure if this season was going t o be any good at all at first because the contestants were pretty crappy, but last week the Guys really stepped up to the plate and pulled off some really talented shit.

Holey Heck! I’m sweating my balls off here. I need to go take a shower before the shows come on.

TTFN! :-h

I’m Baaaaack!

Sunday Jun 22, 2008

I haven’t been online over the weekend because I had my Nephew over and when he’s here he pretty much takes over the place. So I never actually get a chance to use my own computer while he’s here.

This weekend he was insistent that I bring him to the parks wadding pool. He started this at around 7am when it was just 12°C out. I told him that unless it reaches 20°C or higher, we won’t be going.

So he kept checking my desktop weather widget every half hour or so informing me of the temperature.

As soon as it hit 20°C, he let me know!

This is him leaving after spending about 40 minutes in the water;

He says he’s not cold, but he wasn’t slow changing out of the wet cloths when we got back home. LOL

I would have taken video and pictures while we were there, but surprisingly enough, there were a lot of people there, despite the chilly weather. It would have look weird IMO me taking pictures…. maybe sometime when the weather is better and there aren’t so many people around. I just wanted to show the wadding pool area that I’m talking about.

But anyway. Now that he has returned home I’m back online again. Not surprised to see my e-mail box full of spam since my boxbe account got shut off for some reason. What’s with all the penis enlargement spam these days? What if I were a chick and not a dood? Got a few things to catch up on since I was unable to go near my computer all weekend. Hopefully I can get caught up.

This Is Going To Be A Wet Month Me Thinks

Tuesday Jun 17, 2008

Just by chance I checked the weather outlook to see what I’m going to be in for as far as heat and humidity goes. Also to guage just how busy I can expect it to be at work.

Judging by what the weather forecasters guessers are predicting guessing, it looks like it’s going to be a wet month and I’ll be fairly busy at work.

The short term weather forecast guess here shows just what they think it will be like for this week.

The long term 14 day outlook doesn’t look any better either.

Seems that if it isn’t flooding or snowing, it’s raining or humid. Just can’t seem to get a happy medium here lately.

At least I don’t have to worry about my eyeballs itching out of my head from teh blowing pollen anyway.

Fredericton NB’s weather can change though. If the weather people are wrong like they have been lately, then this would be the time for them to be wrong, wouldn’t it?
