Content Scrapers Beware!

Wednesday Aug 6, 2008

Visits:0Hot:*****

I might not be able to stop you from scraping my RSS feed (yet) but at least I can make it so you’re readers, if in fact you actually have any real ones that is, know that you are a scraper and show them where you stole the real content from by linking to my front page and to the scraped content you stole.

To those reading my feed in your readers, you will see the paragraph like;

This post originates from and is authored by : MacBros’ Place. Read all full and original postings at MacBros Place.

The title of the post should also link to the original post also.

So since I can’t easily detonate the scrapers scraping site into oblivion, at least I can benefit from having my links back in all their scraped content.  This is especially good when my RSS feed is set to only display only a partial excerpt of the full post, so their readers (if any) will be forced to click on my links instead of their AdSense ads.

The plug in I will be using for this is called RSS Footer. It gives you the option of setting it to display your own personal linkage in either the header or footer of the RSS Feed. I have chosen the Header as the footer wouldn’t be visible because I don’t display the full Feed from my posts.

UPDATE: I dropped this plug-in. It wasn’t working like was supposed to. Read the latest post after this one for  another try with another Plug-in.

Oh, this is a good one. Anything to thwart content theft sounds good to me.

That’s a nice little one. I will have to look at it and see if it meets my needs more than the copyfeed plugin. Too bad Maxpower didn’t keep his plugin up.

I know you read my site so this probably isn’t necessary but I wanted to ask if you’ve tried Copyfeed and, if so, has it worked for you? I haven’t tested it in quite some time but it should, theoretically, allow you to ban sites that abuse you feed in a way you don’t like.

Just letting you know.

Let me know if I can help!

@teeni - Well, you might want to hold off on this one. It seems that the links arent showing up in the RSS.
@MrCorey - The one you use stopped being useful to me since I don’t show my complete rss from my posts.
@Jonathan Bailey - I’ll have to check that one out. Since it seems that the links aren’t showing up like they are supposed to in the current plug-in. It’s too bad though.
@Uhh Yeah - Smart ass… :-w

@MacBros - So the one that I use suddenly became useful to you again, I see. I sure hope that you didn’t misread my comment and think that I was still trying to use Digital Fingerprint. That won’t work with the newest Wordpress, as they’ve changed their back end ywet again. I’ve not used that for months. Perhaps you should subscribe to my feed and see what ©feed looks like. I’ve been using it for quite some time. You would have been able to learn about it sooner, as I wrote about it. :dance2: …couldn’t resist. Uhh Yeah’s not diggin’ at ya as much as he should this month. :@)

@MrCorey - No, I never used CopyFeed before. It was a combo of Digital Fingerprint and AntiLeech. But this one is a lot better IMO - AYAETI

This one has a combination of features that I like. I’m glad that I’ve been using it for some time now.
