there is a known issue with trying to install service pack 3 from windows update. The couple hundred computers i put it on over the summer, i downloaded it and installed it manually.

I should have my new Mac book soon. i’ll be trying Mac OS, Linux (Opensuse) and XP all on it at the same time. Should be fun!

BTW, I did “upgrade” to SP3 on the Windows XP machine (that I nearly never use, but Caleb does) and it went smoothly, but I installed it within a few months of installing XP fresh. It also went flawlessly on a fresh install on Angela’s Compaq celeron 1.7 (new to her).

Of course, I didn’t install it on my computer because I have no need for such trivial things as a closed source Microsoft (spy on you and take your stuff and rape your women) Operating System and its plethora of vulnerabilities, as I have all I need with Ubuntu Linux, as I’ve made no secret of (and, yes, the Windows version of Photoshop works well in Linux – at least CS2 does). ::

There, is that what you expected?

@teeni - It wasn't actually stressful. Just an annoyance. Glad I got it to work, as if you might not know, the Service Packs are crucial updates.

LOL @ Windoze! I’ve decided I’m never upgrading anything ever and will pay someone else if I ever have to. I don’t think I can handle all the stress it causes.

What? No Mac fanboys chiming in on MACbros place? All self righteous about their lovely computers that only have one or two variations in hardware?

Seriously, though, I am always amazed at how well Windows copes with the myriad of hardware, but good and super shitty, out there and still comes back for another beating (I bet that you thought that I’d have a different comment, didn’t you).

I didn’t have any problems installing SP3, but on 2 of the pc’s here at home, windows update quit working after I installed SP3. Which reminds me, I meant to post that. I hope I still have the page bookmarked where I found the solution…
