HEAT WAVE!

Thursday Jul 26, 2007

hot earthI didn’t know what kind of picture to put here so I placed this one here instead of the other two I was thinking about placing here.

I was thinking about putting the latter since Jeremy Steele mentioned how relieved he was that it wasn’t a picture of me in a bikini in a previous post about the heat.

The last I checked it was a whopping 32°C (89.6°F) but when you add in the humidity, it feels like 38°C (100.4°F) according to The Weather Network.

Now I wish I had some extra spending money to throw an Air Conditioner in a window since we’re allowed to do it in these apartments. But with my luck, I’ll buy one and the temperature would drop to chilly and I will never use it.

I’ve been doing pretty good with my fan system. If I time it correctly  and have the fan in the window on exhaust so it sucks air out of the place and have all the windows covered up it’s actually not that bad in here. Since I’m on the bottom floor, it is kinda cool and the lower pressure in the apartment draws the cool air from the hallways through the openings around the door, since it’s not weather proofed or anything air flows through the gaps around the door.

Then I have my osculating fan on full blast blowing the air around that comes through the door gaps. When I say door gaps, I’m not talking huge gaping holes, just the gaps you would get with a regular door inside your home, like a bedroom door or something.

When the evening comes around and the temperature drops enough to be cool, I’ll reverse the fan in the window and the cool air comes in.

So maybe I really don’t need an air conditioner. Why spend all that money on the thing and pay the power bill that would come along with it?

Nah! Who am I kidding. I wanna’ Air Conditioner!

skye skye:

I’m in the same boat as you, EXCEPT my friend found an old window a/c unit in his garage while he was cleaning it out, and since it still worked, he brought it over and even installed it for me. Nice guy! Still, I need to set up my osculating fan, like you, so that the cooler air spreads throughout my apartment.

Maybe you’ll luck out and have a nice friend like mine :)

I’ve been experiencing some annoying heat waves myself, humidity definitely makes it worse, when you walk outside it feels like a sauna haha.

Skye, all most of my friends are across the border. ;)

Other Mac, Maybe next year I’ll get an A/C unit, but I’ll stick to the fans for now just to avoid the power bill.

Palm Coast, Definitely feels like a sauna for sure.

Uhh Yeah Uhh Yeah:

beer also keeps you cool. the money you’d spend on an air conditioner would cover alot of beer.

Power Bill.. $20 a month. Is a small price to pay to stay cool. All it is is a damn fridge with a fan. Doesn’t use any more power
