If you are an XML coding geek, then you might want to stick around for a bit and check out this pretty kewell IDUG contest that is on right now that could win you some pretty great prizes or even get that perfect job doing what you do best, XML Coding.
It is times like this that I wish that I had the time to train myself on the latest in PHP, XML, and Database programing. Even if it were just reading the learn it yourself resources available online. The things I see people come up these days is absolutely amazing, and most of it is done for free also.
Take WordPress for example. All these plug-in we get for free that are created by talented programmers. We take for granted that they are giving them away for free when in every right they could be charging top dollar for their work. We download their stuff and use it on our blogs and very seldom do they even get a thank you for their hard work.
Well, if you’re one of the many talented XML programmers out there giving your stuff away, then why not enter into one of the many contests running on the IDUG contest web site right now and go for the XML Grand Master status. At least you will get bragging right to your profession.
There are five contests running at the moment and you can enter one or all of them if you wish, the more entries the better your chances. The following categories are;
- Video Contest - Invent a creative use of XML, XQuery or DB2 and record a video of yourself doing it.
- Gadget Conetst - Develop a downloadable gadget or widget leveraging DB2.
- Ported Appp Contest - Port or develop a new app for DB2. Enter as an individual or assemble a team.
- Query Contest - Use XQuery to find five answers. The best queries win the best prizes!
- XML2 Contest - Win by building useful, user-friendly XML apps from scratch. Enter as an individual or assemble a team.
So there you have it. Five different ways to get in on the action and in on the thousands of dollars in prizes, ranging from Wiis to complimentary technical conferences.
I know of a few readers that frequent my web site that should really try out for this. You know who you are.
