I`m a Thief. Or am I?

BeerSo I'm sitting here all day trying to nurse this nasty hangover. I watched 3 of my favorite TV shows (Battlestar Galactic , Smallville, and Supernatural) that I usually catch on the weekend. I have to download these because the season starts to damn late for me to wait and I don't have the Sci-Fi channel to be able to watch the current series.

But anyway, I had to throw in the towel and call a Taxi to deliver my booze.

What better way to get rid of a hangover than to use the hair of the dog, right?

So I called the cab and they came to the door and I asked, "How much do I owe ya'?"

"$14.35", the cabbie replied, and then corrected himself, "Oh no, I'm sorry. That's $17.50." as he squints his eyes looking at the receipt from the beer store.

"HA! I like the first price better!", I replied, slipping the extra 2 $5 bills I had all ready to pass to him back into my pocket because I knew it would be more than that. I knew it would have been at least $26 to have the beer delivered, I knew the beer actually costs just over $19, I knew he fucked up.

So I passed him a $20 bill and he did the usual cabbie thing of scurrying through every single pocket they have except the fanny pack they have that actually holds all their change. They do that to get ya' to give em' a tip, I know it is, I'm not an idiot.

Before he could realize his screw up, I said, "Ahh, that's OK." and closed the door and he went on his way.

He thought he was getting a tip over $2, that's all that mattered to him.

Now does that make me a thief? I did give him a tip right?  All that mattered to me was that I get my beer, and the way my finances have been lately, I wasn't about to pass up this opportunity on saving a few bucks on a delivery charges for beer I really can't afford to buy in the first place.

Even though I feel that a $7 delivery charge  for something that's just a 5 minute walk away is a steep price to pay, I did  realize that the poor fella that delivered the beer will end up having the difference taken from his tips and I'm feeling like crap now that I think about it. But then again, I have tipped like crazy for expensive rides to work and back, but it's the cabbie that's being screwed, not the company.

Shit! I feel like an ass now!

Yea, I guess I am a thief now that I think about it. Now that poor cabbie will have to cover my delivery charge.

Fuck! I'm going to have a beer to feel better!

Sorry cabbie.

You know, I once worked for a guy who told me, “You’re the captain of your own ship. You can steer it into the rocks or you can sail her all over the place.” He meant that he wasn’t going to do my work for me. It wasn’t really your job to calculate that delivery. If he shorted himself, then he’ll get better at math.

Of course, you did know better and could have corrected him and paid the proper amount as well. You could always fork it over later if you get him again. Tell him that you didn’t thin kthat the amount was right after he left and did some math. Tell him that you wanted to make it right. He’ll think that you’re the best guy in the world and you can get away with never tipping him again!

I’m sorry I don’t agree with you Corey. John knew better and didn’t correct it at the time. So John you should feel like an ass.

You sure wouldn’t appreciate it if someone took you for a ride and knew they were doing it. So you feeling bad about it now is just like closing the barn door after the horse got out.Too little too late.

Your right that the delivery charge is outrageous but hey you didn’t want to walk there so you have to pay the price.

But for a minute put yourself in the cabbies place. Yeah a stretch isn’t it…….lol. He makes minimum wage and the meager tips he does get don’t even come close to making it a lucrative job. So the next time you stick it to someone maybe you should think about that.

    John, you are a prick.

haha seriously though, did the dud have blonde hair and a gay looking goatee? If so don’t feel sorry for the fuck. he gets a drive home every night and wont even tip the driver taking him there. The drive is free for christ sakes.

If it isn’t him, yeah you should feel bad.

    That’s the guy! LOL.

I still feel bad though, but not so much because I saved about $10 that I need.

People can think what they will, the way I see it is it would have either been me or sombody else.

I’m glad I saved $10 because of sombody’s stupidity. It’s not like I was never ripped off by a cabbie before.

Oh my what ever happened to honesty and treating others as you would want to be treated. And you’re glad you saved $10 bucks because of someones stupidity. You wouldn’t last a day in my field of work John boy. I have a saying for you “Stupid is as stupid does”

Skye, you are right, I don’t hold back, I call a spade a spade.

Anyway John I hope you enjoyed your beer.
