Jobs Unlimited Can . . . . . .

Wednesday Nov 5, 2008

Well as of 9:45am, I am unemployed.

I was working away trying to get things ready for lunch. Busy, but on time.

Last month, approximately 200 hours of work time ago, I was told I have 200 hours probation to get four things improved. Four things that I was totally oblivious to knowing that I was doing incorrectly, because the manager of the Deli failed to inform me that I was not performing to their standards. So OK, she dropped the ball, and I knew what I had to improve upon. No big deal, because I knew I could do it.

  1. Breakfast items such as muffins and cinnamon buns to be out on display by 7:30am DONE!
  2. Daily menu items ready for the oven by 9:00am DONE!
  3. Get involved with catering orders and assume a sense of ownership. DONE!
  4. Preparation towards the end of the day for the next day. DONE!

Everything seemed to be fine. I was doing what I was asked to do. I wasn’t told that I was doing anything wrong, even though I asked deli manager if everything was fine, and she said, “yea, all is fine.”

I did all that was expected of me, and then some. All on my own without help. I busted my balls to make everybody happy!

But I get this as their reason, “Your employment with Jobs Unlimited has been terminated due to general unsuitability for the position.

I feel bad about the clients and I will actually miss them. They were a happy group of individuals and that’s why I loved that job so much. That was the first job that I actually enjoyed getting up in the morning to go to, despite my grumblings of actually having to get up and go INTO work. I’ll miss it and the co-workers that I got along with.

I just wish I had somebody there that could have spoke up and defended me and actually gave a shit. If there was, I probably would still be working there.

Well, for what’s it’s worth, Thanks Scamp for getting me the job, but I guess I just didn’t fit in with the crowd.

Time to go and let it all sink in now.

That really sucks!
Maybe you should start doing web development again? I read on JR’s blog that somebody made one of your ideas for a blogging service or something, so you must be on the right track.

Though, if money is tight then I don’t know..

Good luck finding a new job. From the sounds of it, I’d be glad to be out of that job, they sound like assholes :P

November 5th, 2008 | 8:07 pm

Yikes. I wonder if this is a good time to move in with a relative until you can get back on your feet? That way maybe you can take more time to find the right job/apartment? I dunno. It sucks.

November 5th, 2008 | 9:59 pm

I’m sorry to hear that, John. There are many jobs waiting for you out there. You need to be serious a bit with jobs and to be serious with your life a bit. You deserve a future.

Sorry to hear the news John. Please don’t judge all employees by your unfortunate experience with a few.

The sad thing is that employers like that wouldn’t know a dick from a baseball bat if it was staring them right in the face.
I guess because you were on probation, you can’t go to the Union and file a complaint or something.
It’s easy for me to say “oh, don’t worry, this is an opportunity for something better” but I’m not in your shoes because if I was, my shoes would be full of worry-shit right now.
Will check back more regularly to see how things progress.
Here in Vancouver, we’re expecting 100 mm of rain today — oh, yes winter is upon us and I’ll be watching the sump pump in my crawl space as the sewer lines won’t handle that amount of rain — of that I am sure because it’s happened before.
The joys of living in the rain forest…

November 9th, 2008 | 7:16 pm

Sorry to hear about your job, Mac :(

With your multiple skills, hopefully it won’t take long to find a new position. I’m glad you have family you can depend on, but I know what you mean about wanting to be self-sufficient. Just don’t be too proud to ask when you do need help.

November 10th, 2008 | 8:35 pm

@skye – Skills don’t seem to mean anything these days. It’s a piece of Paper that says you have skills and paid lots of money to learn in school. Nothing to do with experience and talent these days.

OH I have already asked for a bit of help. My kitty cats needed food and clean litter.
