Just A General Question

I was just watching a show on TV, and they compared the heat of something to the heat of the sun.
For example, they compared the heat of a stove that was almost half the heat of the sun, or something like that.
My question is, “Why do they compare things to be a certain percentage of the heat of the sun?”
I’ve never been to the sun, so I can’t put the similarities together.
Why not say something like, “It would be like sticking your head into a wood stove.” Well OK, I haven’t experienced that either, but maybe something like, “Almost like touching a wood stove that’s 1,000 times hotter than a normal one.” That I could relate to.
You get my point?
