*End yuppie dumb blong voice here*
King Kong is going to be one of the best movies of the year, hell I think that this movie is one of the best movies I’ve seen since
The Lord of the Rings. It’s no wonder since it was directed by Peter Jackson too.
Set in the 1930s, this is the story of a group of explorers and documentary filmmakers who travel to the mysterious Skull Island (near Sumatra) to investigate legends of a giant gorilla named Kong. Once there, they discover that King Kong is a real creature, living in a massive jungle where creatures from prehistoric times have been protected and hidden for millions of years. As the explorers search for the great ape, their quest puts them up against both Kong and his dinosaur enemies. Ultimately, it is the attention of a beautiful human woman that soothes Kong long enough for him to be subdued by the explorers and shipped back to New York, where his bleak future involves being put on display in front of humans… but how long can even the mightiest shackles of man hold back an ape 25 feet tall?
The CGI in this flick was so detailed it was hard to tell real from CGI, besides the fact that there is a 50 foot gorillia in the shot. They even did the entire city of New York so the skyline would match the look from the 1930’s.
There was never a dull moment throughout the movie, you didn’t want to get up outta your seat to go use the washroom because you thought you might miss something.
The cast was well picked too, Jack Black played an interesting roll on the serious side, as opposed to his comedian rolls he usually plays. Poor Naomi Watts must be all black and blue after being tossed and throwen around by the big ol’ King Kong. I was kinda hoping to see the scene whear King Kong gives the girl a shower in the waterfall and then blow drys her by blowing on here like they did in the old movie. Seeing Naomi soaking wet in that skimpy outfit would have been great. Tom Hank’s son Colin Hanks was in this movie too. That guy is a splitting image of his ol’ man. If they ever do a movie on Tom Hanks, Colin could sure fit the roll as the younger Tom Hanks.
If there is anybody out there that thinks this movie was bad, they must have been watching with their eyes closed, or went to the wrong movie thinking it was King Kong but instead it was the Spong Bob Movie, because this movie rawks! I highly recommend seeing this one. Hell I’m going to rent this out again when it comes to DVD, it’ll be interesting to see the ‘behind the scenes’ Extra on the DVD.
I think it’s safe to say that anything Peter Jackson does, you can expect it will be an exellent film. They took a big chance making this movie, and I’m sure it will pay off too.
Go see this now. Don’t just sit there! Go on now, turn off the damn computer and get your ass to the movie! You’ll be glad you did.
This is my opinion, and you’re entitled to it.
