My Page Rank Went Up!

Finally! My Google Page Rank went up instead of down for a change!
All year I have been watching my Page rank go down one notch at a time each time Google decided to update their so called Page Ranking System.
So now I’m sitting at a Page Rank of 4 out of 10. I know it’s not the 5 out of 10 I had a couple of years ago. But it beats the hell out of the 3, then the 2, then the 1 I had for the past year and a half.
I guess the whole link tag ‘nofollow’ actually works. “Why ‘nofollow’?”, you might ask? Well apparently Google doesn’t like hard links to other sites without the ‘nofollow’ tag in there.
I’m not sure of the big deal about it anyway. You would think the whole purpose of linking to another site is to share the linking popularity between web sites. Isn’t that the way you site gains popularity in the first place?
To be honest, I really don’t know how the whole PR works in the first place. All I know is that I heard that adding the ‘nofollow’ tag in your links, and having a lot of other sites linking to you helps with Page Ranking. But that’s just what I’ve heard through the inter-tubes lately. I may be wrong, but at least for now, it seems to be working anyway. ![]()
I suppose a steady amount of posts and content help out a lot also. If your site isn’t updated for long periods of time, you’re rank can also drop.
So, has your Page Rank gone up or down over the past few weeks? If it went up, what did you do to get your PR to go up? Or did yours drop? If it did drop, what do you think happened?

That’s terrific, John!
I just got my first google bot visit today since starting my new blog, so I’m not ranked yet. Guess it would help if I had more than 17 page loads in a day too…lol

You are right john! my PR dropped from 3 to zero few months back. So I did a little research on how to bring it back up. And found out that google penalizes link sellers. And the only way to have those links look good for google is to add a nofollow tag on them. So what I did was I nofollowed all my previous posts with external links and asked for a reconsideration. Guess what, after a week, they brought back my PR3.. =)

i started using no follow when google dropped my PR. It worked as well
I am not sure why they’re doing it, too.
Probably to stop paid-link buyers from influencing PR.
thanks! love your blog.

@julius: Yea the no-follow is what helps a lot IMO.
The snowmen are a Wordpress plug in called WP-Christmas.
