Nanny McPhee

Saturday Feb 11, 2006

Nanny McPheeWell it was about time I saw a good movie! Nanny McPhee was just what I needed to restore my faith in movie makers being able to make a good movie after watching the other stinkers I saw last week.

Based on the “Nurse Matilda” books by Christianna Brand comes the story of Nanny McPhee. Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) is now a widow with seven ill-behaved children who’ve already chased away 17 nannies. But when a mysterious voice tells Cedric to hire Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson), she arrives at the Brown home and the kids learn to behave properly. But when Great-Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury) tells Cedric he must be married by the end of the month or she’ll separate the children, he tries to find women, but the children run them away. And Nanny McPhee tells Simon (Thomas Sangster), the eldest, that he will face the consequences, so the kids go to Selma Quickly (Celia Imrie) and admit what they did and ask to give their father a second chance and they will be married. Will the kids really find the perfect woman for their father?

This has a pretty neat story and I enjoyed it a lot. It was funny, it was sad, it was good. So if you’re looking for a movie to see with the family, this is the one. It’s like a Harry Potter movie, but on the lighter side, so if you have really young ones, there’s nothing that would scare them. As for the parents that take the kids out, they won’t be stuck watching a kids show because the parents will enjoy this too.
It had me laughing a lot, it also had me wanting to reach out and snap that tooth off of Nanny McPhee too. I don’t know why, but the tooth just got under my skin I guess.
The cast of kids just blew me away with their talent. They made the movie believable, so believable that you would think they were actually living out the movie. Come to think of it, it seems that every movie I see that has young English actors, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter, Narnia, and Lemony Snickets, the young ones pull of a better show of acting that the older co-stars.

My summary is that I highly recommend this movie. You won’t be disappointed if you do.
But this is just my opinion, and you’re entitled to it.

Hey MacBros,

When you trackback to my site I get the pingback instead and it sends “contextual” nonsense instead of a nice summary from the trackback.

Go ahead and take a look at this post on my blog and see if you want to make the changes to fix this. Then let me know how it works for you. :)

Thanks.
