National Do Not Call List Canada

When I heard on the radio this morning, that this service was finally available today here in Canada, the first thing I did was log into the National Do Not Call List Website through the CRTC. It’s to bad it took this long to get set up here. Probably a lot of Canadian Red Tape prolonged the whole thing.
It didn’t take mo long after I got home today to submit my Cell Phone number to the list. Although Telemarketers have up to 31 days to update their lists and to make sure they do not call you. You could still receive calls within those first 31 days. But at least I won’t keep getting these annoyances calling me on my cell phone killing my daytime minutes.
Before all this was available, I was Googling the 1-800 numbers that were calling me (I usually never answer them) to see who they were and there would usually be a forum with threads from people asking who the number was from or somebody that found out who they are. When I found out I usually just programmed my cell to never ring when that particular number called. Telemarketers don’t normally leave voice mails.
So I thought that this would be a great post to share with my fellow Canadians, especially my Mom and Dad since I had answered one at their hous last weekend. Some very rude, Derka-Derka accented lady who I couldn’t understand called trying to give away credit cards. The conversation went sorta like this:
Telemarketer: Derka-Derka-Derka Mic Doonawwld!
ME: Sorry we’re not interested and please place this number on your Do Not Call list.
Telemarketer: Derka-Derka? Derka-daerka-derka!
ME: I’m sorry, I can’t understand a single word your trying to say.
Telemarketer: Derrrrrrrr-ka, Derrrrrr-ka, derr derrrr deeeeerrrrka!
ME: OK, I’m hanging up now…
Telemarketer: Der…

LOL! The news on the TV is just starting their story about this DNC List.
Well anyway, if you want to put a stop to these annoyances, just go to https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/ and submit your phone number.
FYI, the site might be overwhalmed so you may get some error, I just paged backward one and then tried again.
UPDATE: Funny news artilce about people having trouble with getting registered.

Well, that will be a relief to not get those calls anywmore. I like your trick of programming those numbers not to ring. Great idea! I’m glad you passed that info on. It could come in handy. I swear sometimes I think it is required that you speak Derka to be a telemarketer. LOL.
@teeni – I don’t see the marketing strategy behind it anymore. Nobody likes to get the calls, so why even bother?
It’s comparable to going to somebody’s house, waiting till they’re relaxed, and then start banging and screaming at them trying to get to to buy a burrito from you. Even though, they don’t want it and really can’t stand the fact that your screaming and banging.
Thanks for the useful information. Love the blog BTW!

@David Wornica – Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for stopping bye and taking the time to drop a comment.
There’s a lot of stupid people out there that fall for those calls. We are on the DNC list here, but still get a few calls from time to time. Those get blocked though.
