Left Sidebar Widget
Last night I was working on a different Flickr plug-in and trying to make it work with my blog theme but I guess it was when it decided to lock my connection out due to some unknown reason, I decided that a different one was in need.
I ended up installing the Slickr Gallery which is AJAX designed. I really like what I saw immediately after I activated the plug in.
Setup was a cinch!
The admin interface was simple to follow and it was just mere seconds and my Gallery was running.
The features included allow you to deselect certain galleries that you don’t want to display, for example your nude pictures, or family photo’s you would like to share with family only. Whatever the reason, it is there for you to use.
The thumbnail generator is as simple as sliding the sizing bar to the size you want your thumbnail images.
The other features includes your own URL link, number of thumbnail images to display in the widget, how many per page, what theme you’re going to use, and how many albums per page. It’s all there in plain English and is very easy to set up.
This plugin will retrieve your Flickr photosets and display them as albums on a page within this site. It also allows you to easily add your photos to your blog posts or pages. To insert photos into your posts, just click the Photos tab while editing a post and select a thumbnail.
Before you start
- Slickr requires a working Lightbox plugin to function properly.
- After you have updated a Flickr set, or created a new one, visit this page to refresh Slickr’s cache to show your latest photos.
- This plugin is provided ‘as is’, meaning it is unsupported and comes with no official technical support. For unofficial technical support, as well as updated versions of Slickr, visit www.stimuli.ca/slickr/.
The AJAX layout is also impressive. Here is my Gallery as of now;
I had to edit the Default Theme and rename it to my own so it would work with my current theme. There are a few themes already pre-loaded, but non would work with mine, so I made my own.
When you click on an album, it may seem that nothing is happening sometimes, but that is just the script fetching the Flickr info if it isn’t already cached on my server, so be patient, sometimes it takes a bit of time to load the images.
I still use My Own Gallery, but that’s mainly just for my Photoshop stuff now. I haven’t really been adding to that one at all lately, just when I make new Photoshop Images, I’ll add them to it. But the Flickr is what I add everything to now.
