Well the new job training is going OK so far. (Training, I hate saying that. You train animals, not people. So I’ll say Job Instructing or Job Course.
It started off a bit bumpy there for a bit because the IT and Contractors were to slow on setting things up so it ended up putting us all behind a couple of days. We made due by reviewing the modules that didn’t need computers to be instructed on.
They managed to get the cubicles all set up and got some really nice brand-spanking-new Dell computers with adjustable flat panel monitors. Once they got the computers all hooked up to the server it started to look promising.
There was some serious lag with the applications we were using, and at first I thought they were using the old shitty server from the hell-hole-call center that was there previously. But as the IT guy explained to me when I asked said that it was because the training environment we were working on was not directly connected to the main server and is being piped though the training server which is fine for training purposes. True and acceptable I suppose. Why have a super server for training when you can keep the one you’ll be depended on at top notch performance. Plus they were waiting for Aliant to drop in their Fiber Optics, which actually got installed today.
The staff that have come to the center to help open the place up are VERY friendly and helpful. Nobody is locked up in their office hiding away, they are all out there mingling with the rest of us. And one good thing is that they all have started from the bottom of the totem pole too and were moved to different positions in the company from within, so that means they don’t hire people outside for upper management positions. Everybody starts off from production, in which they all should in my opinion. That way they KNOW how things are run.
With that said. Since this is a NEW call center location, they need people to fill their management positions. And since they don’t hire them off the street and hire from within only they’re looking for people from our group.
I applied for two positions. Quality Assurance and Team Leader. Today I had the interview. Everybody else that applied for the various positions like Manager, trainer, team leader, and QA were interviewed by two of the ladies that were doing the interviews, when I got my turn there were three. The third was just another person who dropped into the center to help out. I thought I was on the hot seat big time. They asked me what position I was really interested and I told them the QA is what I would actually prefer. So I was interviewed for that position.
They asked me questions and when I gave them what I thought was the answer they were looking for, their eyes opened wide and they looked at each other and went, “Mmmmm Good, goood! Yup, yup.” You know that thing you do when you’re in a group and you all agree to something but don’t wan to express to much emotion to signal that what you’re hearing is exactly what you wanted to hear from a question? Well that’s what they did. So I think I did pretty well. And again, I couldn’t stop looking at their boobs.
I hope I get the job position and if I don’t, they told me that there are always new positions for different company needs. So there is always room to advance to different levels in the company.
Every quarter they fly a group of agents to the US, like Texas, California, and Florida to business sites to see and experience the products and services that we’re are booking for clients. This is something I’m looking forward to. What better way to be able to explain something to a client especially after you’re experienced it yourself. It’s all expenses paid too!
I can’t get into details on who the company is, or the client, or even the service we take care of. I signed a contract that specifically mentioned that it wasn’t allowed to post, or comment on anything that I do on Blogs, or any other social media, like Facebook and Twitter. So I’ll stay away from that stuff because I think this job will actually turn out alright.
So hopefully the next post about work will be about how I got the new job position.
