Post Nasal Drip

I haz it!

It never fails. When ever I get a cold or a flu I always end up with a bad case of Post Nasal Drip.

Last night I had to leave work early because I couldn’t stop coughing and because of all the barking and coughing my throat turned to hamburger. Working a job that requires you to actually speak and having to deal with the hamburger throat and coughing, I was better off throwing in the towel and get my sick ass home.

That’s a day and a half of pay that I’m going to loose because of this fucking flu. Thankfully I’m off today and I can deal with it.

While at work, all I heard all over the entire production floor was coughing, nose blowing, and sneezing. There were several dozens of people sick. Some trying to be hygienic, but most were not.

The employer has even supplied the employees antibacterial cloths along with the anti-bacterial hand wash located throughout the building’s walls to help combat the ever growing viral infestation.

I only witnessed a few people actually using them, including myself plus I had a bottle of Purell Hand Sanitizer Gel (with Aloe so the hands wouldn’t dry up and crack to shit.), but most of the sick were not. Which really pissed me off because it’s poor hygienic practices like that which is most likely the cause of why everybody is fucking sick in the first place.

Well later on when I was home I passed out watching TV only to be awaken by massive coughing fits and trying to catch my breath. If anybody has experienced a bad case of Post Nasal Drip then you know that sleep is something that is rare when you have a case of it. You are constantly awaken because of the gaging and coughing caused by it. There is absolutely no sleeping position you can position yourself into in order to prevent the barking and coughing caused by the Post Nasal Drip.

Causes of Post-nasal Drip

The inside lining of the nose produces large amounts of mucus to clean the nose, trap foreign particles (e.g., dust), and to fight infection. Post-nasal drip can be caused by various medical conditions including sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), viral infections such as the common cold, rhinitis (a runny nose that may be acute or chronic), allergies, or bacterial infections. In some cases, post-nasal drip can be caused by reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Suffice to say, I didn’t get much sleep last night. I knew I had a bad case of Post Nasal Drip because I’ve experienced this all to many of times. So I made a run next door to the drug store. I usually have my doctor prescribe me some Flonase but that shit is way to expensive and I didn’t think I could manage getting an appointment with her and get a drive into Oromocto which is about a 25-30 minute drive from here.

I asked the pharmacist what would be a good over the counter drug to help combat this damn pain in the ass symptom and he suggested the Same thing I normally use for my allergies in the summer. He said that Aerius should help dry the fuck out of my face and stop the Post Nasal Drip.

$20 for a box of 20 tablets! OMG! But I was desperate and grabbed a box.

They say they start to work within 45 minutes. It’s been 3 hours and my face is still draining and that fucking tickling in the back of my throat from the Post Nasal Drip is still there. I’ve went through half a roll of TP from blowing my nose and my waste basket is due for another changing because it’s getting full.

The side effects from the Aerius are about the only things that are working, and that is the headache and the drowsiness, even though these are non-drowsy. I’m tempted to take another even though it says no more than one in 24 hours, but I’m desperate.

I’ve tried all the other home remedies before too. Like the warm salt water solution shot through the nose. Yea’ that’s right. Snorting warm salt water in the nose. It actually does work, but only provides temporary relief for about an hour or two and having to do that every couple of hours is just about as annoying as the chronic coughing.

I’ll just give this Aerius a chance. Maybe it’ll kick in later on or something. (Crossing Fingers) Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow, I’ll be able to do my job also. I can’t afford this time off.

[While writing this post I have sneezed about 30 times, blew my nose about 60 times, filled my wastebasket, emptied a roll of TP, lost count of the coughing fits, spit up about 8 times.]
