Canada Day 2009 Fireworks

Thursday Jul 2, 2009

I hate to say it but I wasn’t entirely impressed with this years fireworks celebration for Canada’s 142nd Birthday.

It was short, and the pyrotechnics were really lame. The ones people bought from the corner stores and shot them off on the other side of the river were almost better.

There was one point where they shot off a bunch of white candlestick ones that lasted for about a minute and a half. I was sitting there, jaw dropped open, wondering, “what the hell is this shit?”

There were some nice ones, but the crappy ones outweighed the good ones. Most of them were just tiny explosions of sparkling colors. I like the ones that go way up and explode lighting up the entire area. There were maybe 4 or 5 of those ones.

I left feeling ripped off. I wish I didn’t waste my time walking all the way there for that boring show.

You would figure they would spend some good money on the Nations Birthday. I mean C’mon!

I took some pictures but, like last year, I used the fireworks setting on my camera and as you can see it doesn’t do a great job. Next time I’m going to use the night settings and stay away from the fireworks settings. You would figure a fireworks setting for taking pictures of fireworks would work huh? LOL

Happy Canada Day!

Wednesday Jul 1, 2009

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Happy 142nd B-Day Canada!

Lots of activities starting Already. You can see on the city cam at Officers Square and The Riverfront where the Fireworks will be at dawn.

I will be heading down to the riverfront later on today. Maybe check a few things out. I was expecting some company, but I don’t know if they plan on stopping in first. So I’ll be going to take some pictures and video. Hopefully I can use the camera settings correctly this time. LOL

Oh Hai! What’s Up?

Monday Jun 29, 2009

This is just a random post just to say what I’ve been up to the past few days.

First off. Work. Shitty shifts keep me to burnt out to do anything. I’ve been getting one day off and then work a few and get one more day off. My days off are split up and it really sucks because I don’t feel rested at all when I have to go back in. So I’ve been pretty burnt out lately. Why I haven’t been chatting on Messenger or Skype lately folks.

Seems that the new training classes are set to start on the 8Th of July. So I’m hoping that will mean better shifts since they’re based on seniority.

The assholes are still the same though. I was going to apply at a different place, but I want to wait and see how things work out when we get some new meat on the floor. So I’ll put up with the assholes for a bit.

Last Saturday I had to hang up on some asshole because, well… he was being a real asshole. One of those people that ask a question, and when you go to answer it they cut you off. That evening was flooded with assholes and my nerves were shot after working 9 hours and it was time for me to go home in ten minutes. I was getting so frustrated with this fucker that I just said, “Fuck it!” and hung up. I’ll probably get in shit for that but fuck em’. It was either that or blow up at this fucking asshole and tell him to take his freaking F*do Phone and shove it up his ass.

Then the past few days were spent fighting with my web host. Don’t want to get started on that one. Lets just say I’ve had enough of my share of false promises and excuses.

I got a little constructive today. I finished off a Canada Day Flash Animation for July 1st. So check that out when the day starts. I have Canada Day off too, so I’ll go out and catch the fireworks. I’ll take pictures and video too. Hopefully I can do a better job than I did last  time.

I uploaded a crap load of new games to my Free Flash Game Site. I also had Richard Dows help me out with getting a link to the site in my page list on this site using the Word Press code so it fits in with the other website pages. A simple anchor text link didn’t seem to look right.

That reminds me. I have to apologize to my Twitter followers because I didn’t turn off the Twitter Update Plug-in when I did the massive update, causing a crap load of updates to show up on Twitter.

Well it’s late. I’m tired.

Last Night’s Canada Day Fireworks

Wednesday Jul 2, 2008

Sorry for taking so long to get this stuff up, it just ended up taking a bit more time to edit the video. I didn’t realize I took that much video. Even after editing it and converting it to FLV it was still a huge 25MB file.

I was constantly switching my camera from video mode to still picture mode. Before I went there I had manually set my camera up for taking the night pictures using settings in the manual for taking pictures of fireworks. I should have noted the part about needing a tripod. Every picture had the shutter open for a long time and every movement I made caused streaks.

I didn’t end up deleting them because they actually still looked pretty kewel. Not the best firework pictures, but they still looked neat enough to keep.

I’ve uploaded them to my Flickr Pro account to share.

I was all set and thought I had the best seat in the house on the waterfront. Well that was until this loudmouth 400LB bitch and her followers decided to park their fat asses right beside me. If I needed a play-by-play commentary with special effects for every firework that went off then these would be the idiots to go to. I tried to edit their voices out so you wouldn’t have to listen to her bicker and complain the whole time and then talk bullshit about the show. I felt like saying something like, “Then go take your fat ass home then.” But I just bit my tongue. Might I also suggest there be a ban on ridiculously mega-fat people wearing spandex tops and spandex pants!

Aside from the annoying group of misfits beside me, the show wasn’t all that bad. I just wish I had the proper set up on my camera for the stills. I’ll see if I can do better August 4th on New Brunswick Day.

Time for bed.

Happy Canada Day!

Tuesday Jul 1, 2008

Happy Canada Day Canada! And to all the men and women overseas protecting us so that we all can live our lives in peace here in this great country, thank you and have a great Canada Day too.

I just hope the weather breaks so it can be enjoyed. There’s a lot of thing that are supposed to take place, and the fireworks display is supposed to be one of the best yet.

Frequently referred to as “Canada’s birthday,” particularly in the popular press, the occasion marks the joining of the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. However, though it is regarded that Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date, the British Parliament at first kept limited rights of political control over the new country, which were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were ended in 1982, when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution. Canada Day, thus, differs from Independence Day celebrations in other countries, in that it does not commemorate a clear-cut date of complete independence.

The name Canada most likely comes from a St. Lawrence Iroquoian word kanata, meaning “village” or “settlement”. In 1535, inhabitants of the present-day Quebec City region used the word to direct explorer Jacques Cartier toward the village of Stadacona. Cartier used the word ‘Canada’ to refer to not only that village, but the entire area subject to Donnacona, Chief at Stadacona. By 1545, European books and maps began referring to this region as Canada.

The French colony of Canada referred to the part of New France along the Saint Lawrence River and the northern shores of the Great Lakes. Later, it was split into two British colonies, called Upper Canada and Lower Canada until their union as the British Province of Canada in 1841. Upon Confederation in 1867, the name Canada was adopted for the entire country, and Dominion was conferred as the country’s title. It was frequently referred to as the Dominion of Canada until the 1950s. As Canada asserted its political autonomy from Britain, the federal government increasingly used Canada on legal state documents and treaties. The Canada Act 1982 refers only to “Canada” and, as such, it is currently the only legal (and bilingual) name. This was reflected in 1982 with the renaming of the national holiday from Dominion Day to Canada Day.

Remember to have beer and drink fun. Plus we need to make good Mojo for perfect weather.

Enough With The Rain Already!

Sunday Jun 29, 2008

I’m all for a little rain every now and again, but this is ridiculous! It’s been raining for the past week now! OK, sure, there’s been a break in the rain every once in awhile, but I’m starting to forget what the sun feels like.

The long term forecast doesn’t look promising either as you can see from my desktop weather widget. I really, really, really hope that they are wrong about Tuesday though. Or at least wrong for Tuesday night so I can go watch the fireworks display for Canada Day. I would like to go there and take some video and pictures of the show.

There are a lot of events that are supposed to take place on Tuesday (Canada Day) too. There’s a block party, which you can watch on the web cam under the Officers Square cam, and maybe you’ll even catch the fireworks on the SJ River cam too.

I think we’ve had enough rain anyway. It’s cooling down a bit too much and it’s making things feel all damp all the time.

Anybody out there feel like taking away this gloomy weather? It’s yours if ya’ want it.
