I hate to say it but I wasn’t entirely impressed with this years fireworks celebration for Canada’s 142nd Birthday.
It was short, and the pyrotechnics were really lame. The ones people bought from the corner stores and shot them off on the other side of the river were almost better.
There was one point where they shot off a bunch of white candlestick ones that lasted for about a minute and a half. I was sitting there, jaw dropped open, wondering, “what the hell is this shit?”
There were some nice ones, but the crappy ones outweighed the good ones. Most of them were just tiny explosions of sparkling colors. I like the ones that go way up and explode lighting up the entire area. There were maybe 4 or 5 of those ones.
I left feeling ripped off. I wish I didn’t waste my time walking all the way there for that boring show.
You would figure they would spend some good money on the Nations Birthday. I mean C’mon!
I took some pictures but, like last year, I used the fireworks setting on my camera and as you can see it doesn’t do a great job. Next time I’m going to use the night settings and stay away from the fireworks settings. You would figure a fireworks setting for taking pictures of fireworks would work huh? LOL

When I woke up this morning-ish I opened up the curtains on the windows and saw nothing but white. The storm we had last night dumped up to 40 cm or more on the city of Fredericton. The snow was up halfway over my windows. I can’t see anything but the huge snowdrift that formed outside the window. I can’t see the parking lot, or the trees off to the right of the building.
Buddy and Brain are a bit pissed off at the moment because they can’t see anything either when they sit up in the window. They seem to be lost without being able to sit up in the window and watch stuff blow by. Seems all they want to do now is just lay around and do nothing. It’s as if their entertainment was taken away.
Corey posted a picture of his road, well, sorta. It’s actually a snow covered field now since the plows haven’t made their way to his place yet. Nice time for a snowshoe or a ski run.
Corey's Street. Better get shoveling Corey. LOL!
They say we got about 40cm of that white crap already and yet the snowfall warning is still calling for an additional 10cm by the end of the night. I can’t get over how much snow we’ve got in such a short time.
If anybody out there is still wishing they had snow where they live, then by all means. Come and take some. You know what? I’m feeling generous, why don’t you come and take it all?
I had to take a walk next door to go pick up a few things like Eggs, Pepsi, Margarine, and milk for those wondering. As I was passing byt the Beer store, they had a funny sign in the window saying, “Sorry, we’re closed due to weather conditions ” with a crying face under it. I guess that is what all the dried out and thirsty people, who just spent hours shoveling out their car to get to the beer store, only to find out the store is closed would look like.
I took a few pictures on my walk there just t o show how messy it is outside.

I took advantage of the nice weather today and the fact that I was off work today also, and went for a walk in the park. I took a stroll through Odel Park and took some pictures on my stroll through. You can view all them pictures on my Flickr Account.
I got some really nice shots too. Unfortunately since I cant edit them in Photoshop (because my good computer is FUBAR) I just uploaded them all untouched. There are a few of them I’ll be putting into a panorama image. When I get my good computer up and running again, I’ll update them then.
People were out there sleding and skiing down the hills and having fun. I didn’t photograph them because that would look odd. Some guy by himself in teh woods snapping pictures of strangers. LOL

I managed to upload all them pictures last night from my little trek through the Odel Park Trails. I was actually worried that by the time I managed to make it there, all the colored leaves would have been blown off the trees. But lucky for me, there was a lot of color to be photographed.
Enjoy!

You can view the complete Scenery Set at my Flickr account.
I have some video that I’m going to edit to some music too. I’ll post that soon too. (I hope)
I’ve had a crazy day today that involved a Skunk and myself. More on that later. (Maybe) Possibly a FNFO for tomorrow.

New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick) is one of Canada’s three Maritime provinces and is the only constitutionally bilingual province (French and English) in the federation. The provincial capital is Fredericton. Statistics Canada estimates the provincial population in 2008 to be 751,527; a majority are English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (32%), chiefly of Acadian origin.
The province’s name comes from the English translation for the city of Braunschweig in north Germany, the ancestral home of the Hanoverian King George III of the United Kingdom.
Not only is it New Brunswick’s Birthday, it is also CFB Gagetown’s 50th Anniversary! They are celibrating at the old government house and will be providing fireworks for the events too. Plus there will be Free Ice Cream and Lemonaid!
Hopefully the weather lets up enough so I can take a walk over and take some video. Maybe get some tanks and stuff on video.
Well I did a lot of walking around town today (May1st) and I actually enjoyed it. I will have to do that more often because I felt really good and full of energy when I got home. So good I decided to grab 8 cans of Keiths Beer.
While in town, I got to the bank as it was one of two main reasons to walk into town today. The bank was closed due to the flooding, but fortunately the ATM’s were working. I had to make a deposit so I could pay rent. But that’s to boring to get into.
The second reason for walking the streets was to take some pictures and video of the flooded areas of the city. I believe there are 35 pictures that I took and another 5 1/2 minutes of video, which you can watch here.
I used Google Earth to make an aerial view if what I witnessed to be flooded. Now there is probably flooding in a lot of other places, but I just marked in what I saw. Maybe Corey can add to the image if he feels like it.
Click on the image to open it up in flickr so you can see the large image.
Sorry for posting this so late, but I had to watch my Favorite TV Shows. CSI, Survivor, and LOST were on and I watch these shows ritualistically. I have to say I’m more LOST with LOST now BTW.
When I went into work Wednesday, they decided it was do dangerous to leave the power on in the city in the parts the flooding is the worst, so the clubs were shut down and it was pretty quiet at work. But I guess it was pretty busy in the day since most of the restaurants in the center of town were shut down.
The water started to flood the basement of the restaurant by coming up through the sewer pump that pumps the water from the sinks out. They have to have it because it’s below the water table, hence the flood water coming up through the floor.
The power was off all day Thursday in the flood zones, and apparently will be until the water recedes. They even had to boot all the folks out of one of the Hotels in the Flood Zone. I bet a lot of vacationers were pissed off.
There was Media all over the place. I had a hard time staying out of the camera view. It was crazy watching them every place trying to milk every possible disastrous moment they could.
This actually happens every year, but unfortunately it hasn’t been this bad since 1973.
They’re saying it will peak tonight, but that can change at any hour, so you really don’t know what to expect.
A lot of folks down river from me are probably going to have it worse since they drop a bit lower to sea level and are in the major flood plains. Just hope mom and Dad do alright. Mom was saying that the water is actually right at the back steps of one of my brother’s place. And if it peaks tonight, he will probably need his hip waders for sure.
I took the airplane up and took some video so it’s available if you have 30 or so extra minutes to watch video of the City of Fredericton Flood Areas, or you can skip through it too if you want to watch certain spots. No I didn’t actually take the video in the airplane, just kidding, it’s from the City Web Site.
