I haz it!
It never fails. When ever I get a cold or a flu I always end up with a bad case of Post Nasal Drip.
Last night I had to leave work early because I couldn’t stop coughing and because of all the barking and coughing my throat turned to hamburger. Working a job that requires you to actually speak and having to deal with the hamburger throat and coughing, I was better off throwing in the towel and get my sick ass home.
That’s a day and a half of pay that I’m going to loose because of this fucking flu. Thankfully I’m off today and I can deal with it.
While at work, all I heard all over the entire production floor was coughing, nose blowing, and sneezing. There were several dozens of people sick. Some trying to be hygienic, but most were not.
The employer has even supplied the employees antibacterial cloths along with the anti-bacterial hand wash located throughout the building’s walls to help combat the ever growing viral infestation.
I only witnessed a few people actually using them, including myself plus I had a bottle of Purell Hand Sanitizer Gel (with Aloe so the hands wouldn’t dry up and crack to shit.), but most of the sick were not. Which really pissed me off because it’s poor hygienic practices like that which is most likely the cause of why everybody is fucking sick in the first place.
Well later on when I was home I passed out watching TV only to be awaken by massive coughing fits and trying to catch my breath. If anybody has experienced a bad case of Post Nasal Drip then you know that sleep is something that is rare when you have a case of it. You are constantly awaken because of the gaging and coughing caused by it. There is absolutely no sleeping position you can position yourself into in order to prevent the barking and coughing caused by the Post Nasal Drip.
Causes of Post-nasal Drip
The inside lining of the nose produces large amounts of mucus to clean the nose, trap foreign particles (e.g., dust), and to fight infection. Post-nasal drip can be caused by various medical conditions including sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), viral infections such as the common cold, rhinitis (a runny nose that may be acute or chronic), allergies, or bacterial infections. In some cases, post-nasal drip can be caused by reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Suffice to say, I didn’t get much sleep last night. I knew I had a bad case of Post Nasal Drip because I’ve experienced this all to many of times. So I made a run next door to the drug store. I usually have my doctor prescribe me some Flonase but that shit is way to expensive and I didn’t think I could manage getting an appointment with her and get a drive into Oromocto which is about a 25-30 minute drive from here.
I asked the pharmacist what would be a good over the counter drug to help combat this damn pain in the ass symptom and he suggested the Same thing I normally use for my allergies in the summer. He said that Aerius should help dry the fuck out of my face and stop the Post Nasal Drip.
$20 for a box of 20 tablets! OMG! But I was desperate and grabbed a box.
They say they start to work within 45 minutes. It’s been 3 hours and my face is still draining and that fucking tickling in the back of my throat from the Post Nasal Drip is still there. I’ve went through half a roll of TP from blowing my nose and my waste basket is due for another changing because it’s getting full.
The side effects from the Aerius are about the only things that are working, and that is the headache and the drowsiness, even though these are non-drowsy. I’m tempted to take another even though it says no more than one in 24 hours, but I’m desperate.
I’ve tried all the other home remedies before too. Like the warm salt water solution shot through the nose. Yea’ that’s right. Snorting warm salt water in the nose. It actually does work, but only provides temporary relief for about an hour or two and having to do that every couple of hours is just about as annoying as the chronic coughing.
I’ll just give this Aerius a chance. Maybe it’ll kick in later on or something. (Crossing Fingers) Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow, I’ll be able to do my job also. I can’t afford this time off.
[While writing this post I have sneezed about 30 times, blew my nose about 60 times, filled my wastebasket, emptied a roll of TP, lost count of the coughing fits, spit up about 8 times.]

Yup. I’m one sick puppy at the moment. I felt like garbage all day long and I found it very hard to focus on learning my programs that I am going to be working with.
I used up about a dozen throat lozenges, a roll of TP for blowing my nose, and spent the last of my cash on some sinus pills.
I was so goof balled up on cold meds that I couldn’t follow anything. The fever and raging-want to just curl up in a corner and sleep were pretty much the only thing on my mind.
Speaking of cold meds. What is it with cold meds for daytime relief that they mostly all treat Congested Sinuses when I usually have a runny-snot faucet-type nose in the daytime, and the nighttime relief cold meds treat runny noses, while at night I’m congested? WTF???
Here’s a little tip for those who might not be aware of it, but if you use up a lot of throat lozenges, more than you should, you will end up with a bad case of the jet shits.
Speaking of Jet Shits, why is it that you never know if you are REALLY finished? You feel done, but end up going back a few minutes later as if you never went at all. LOL
TMI, I know.
OH, and holy snapping arseholes! It was freaking cold outside today! The wind blew right through you and froze you on it’s way through too.
I guess it’s time to go roll myself up in blankets and watch TV for the rest of the evening. Shove some Kleenex up my nose and call it a night.

I woke up Thursday afternoon with a fever and I was aching all over, and not to forget the constant stream of nose dripping.
About an hour before it was time to go into work, I decided it would be better to stay home and rest up and hopefully I’ll feel better for the weekend. I knew if I did go in, I would probably end up having to come back home because I was really feeling terrible.
I thought that Wednesday was the worst it would get but I was terribly wrong.
So hopefully tonight I’ll feel a lot better and be able to cope the weekend at work. Just wish the drainage of the nose would stop.
Here’s crossing my fingers to feeling better in the next few hours. Don’t want to miss any more hours from work. People get grumpy and wallet gets lighter.

I’m actually starting to come around. The sinuses are still a bit Fu#@ed up though and I also have this annoying dry cough too.
I’m not feeling as bad as I have been the past week though, thankfully!
I’ve been offline for a long time and had everything turned off. My web cam, Desktop cam, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, but had the PC running still for my TV Guide listings. The only time I sat here in front of the computer was to check what was going to be on the Boob Tube.
While I was asleep my computer must have made an update and rebooted, when it rebooted it opened all the apps that I usually have running. The ones I stated that I had shut off above.
Seconds of being turned on, Messages started popping up. Waking me up! Grrrrr!
Dragged my ass out of bed and shut it down.
Well I have to go next door and pick up a few things so the cats can eat, and I can print stuff on the printer. Maybe some beer too for when I get off work in the morning, if they call out to me while I’m over there.

Yup. It seems there’s an endless supply of the stuff. My head hasn’t turned into a raisin yet from dehydration. The snot flow just continues to go, and go, and go. Apparently from my eyeballs, as Corey pointed out, or as teeniput it, melted brain tissue from overheating, but I said one would need a brain for that to happen, so that theory is blown out of the water.
Work was really busy from the ECMA Awards that are going on all over the city, and because of them the Bars and clubs are allowed to remain open until 4am instead of the usual 2am closing times. So the drunks are probably enjoying that.
Speaking of drunks… There was this one guy that came to the restaurant and sat in the chair and never ordered anything. He just sat upright with his eyes closed. Sorta’ like he was meditating or something but clearly drunk to complete pickled brain state.
The manager, and the boss both tried to have him leave because he was not ordering anything, and was probably freaking out the other customers. Well he just sat there meditating. So the Boss, supervisor, and the Manager decided to help him out by dragging him out. Well didn’t he start to go all crazy in the lobby! The Boss, supervisor, and Manager apparently had to take him down! Three guys! Had to take this drunken idiot down! I guess he was throwing punches and everything.
Then the cops came, and didn’t the drunken boob decide to take some punches at the female cop! MACE TIME! They planted his face on the frozen pavement and tried to handcuff him. After the struggle they finally managed to get him in the back of the police car and one of the Officers came to the back office to write his report and I guess the guys are pressing charges too.
After that was all over, we were egging the guys on with, “Woah! That’s why you don’t mess with the boss.”, and “Way to go Rocky!” and “Look out here come the tough guys!” They were all sheepish as they walked through the kitchen.
So besides it being super busy, it was pretty entertaining too!
As for the cold, it has moved into my sinuses and chest. My head feels all clogged up and my chest is congested also. The fever is almost gone, but still there enough to make my skin all clammy. With it being in my chest, it causes me to be out of breath really fast when I do anything taxing. Sucks to have asthma and a cold at the same time.
So I’m going in again tonight to do it all over again. Last night went very smoothly and the time flew bye fast, so lets hope tonight goes as well, and hopefully I’ll have some more stories like the drunken meditator!

So it’s 4am as I write this, and my nose is running like a fire hose on full blast. Where the hell does all this snot come from???
I stayed home from work today because I was burning up all day. I lay in bed watching TV, OH and by the way LOST just threw me a few MORE curve balls dammit!
I think I’m on my third roll of TP now, after the box of Kleenex is empty. My small desk trash can is full of nothing but TP and Kleenex.
The fever has subsided a bit, so hopefully when I wake up later today before work I’ll be feeling a lot better.
I’ll also be making an appointment with my doctor for Monday, because I have been getting sick way to many times, and it’s past the point of normal. I’ve been sick with the Cold, Flue, and some other bug withing the last month and a half. I don’t believe a person is supposed to get sick that often unless there’s something wrong with them.
Well I guess I lay back down and watch Supernatural and Smallville and then take some nighttime medicine and go to sleep.
But before I go, seriously here. Where does all this snot come from??? I swear if I just let it drip it would probably fill a shot glass in a minute. Not that I would be doing snot shooters or anything. If it keeps going like it is, my heads going to shrivel up like a raisin from dehydration.
OK, I think I grossed you all out enough. I’m going to go watch my shows now, but if anybody has an answer, leave a comment.
