The Good Wife’s Guide.
Sunday, January 4, 2009 13:38 | 507 viewsThis was sent to me by e-mail. It has been sitting in my in-box since April 6th, 2008. I’m just now getting around to posting it. I was actually debating if I should or not, some might be offended, then after thinking that, I posted it, because it’s what I do.
It’s a Good Housekeeping article from 1955 on how a Housewife should do her duties in the home the proper way.
The last one. “Always know your place.” was the one that got a chuckle out of me.
If I didn’t know any better, I bet this was written by some guy who was sick and tired coming home to a grouchy wife and a filthy home everyday after work. He was probably tired of being nagged at when he came home from the pub.
Were people so gullible in the 50’s?

Times were different then. The war changed a lot, when many women, who didn’t work outside of their homes, were forced into it, either because their spouses died in combat or because they were pressured into it by the local munitions company, who had no men to do the work.
After the war, the women still worked outside of the home, so the role they were forced into prior to the war was hard to go back to.
Once you open the door, people will go through and won’t want to go back to their prison/servitude/slavery so easily.
Unfortunately for me, my wife makes sure that I know MY place, which is to go out and work to support the family while she gets to be the caregiver/homemaker. LOL. At least there’s a choice.

@MrCorey – It’s the ladies that wear the pants in the house now these days. LOL

“Remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.”
Try that one now and you’ll end up talking soprano.

Oh good grief. One of my former co-workers had this posted in the office. Any time we would make some comment he didn’t like he would point to one of the rules. LOL

Wow! If I posted something like that at my former job I would have been fired. We have a lot of people here that are easily offended.

Well, Greg was in an office full of women (5 to 1), and we considered him one of the girls. Ok, truthfully, he kept us supplied with chocolate.

I’ve found that if you’re the only guy in a gaggle of women, you’d better appear to be a bit of a chauvinist, as the role is expected. He prolly put up that poster just to stir things up to the right level.

LOL @ gaggle of women. Yea, I would probably have done that too. Just to make sure my masculinity and testosterone wasn’t overlooked and the ladies treated me like one of the girls.
