Time to Get The Resume’s Updated Me Thinks!

Have you ever felt that no matter how much or how hard you try at something, but keep getting your feet swept from under you all the time, that you start to feel as useless as a sack of hammers?
The other week, I was in a meeting, and I was informed that I wasn’t completing certain tasks in a specified amount of time. Both things that I was totally oblivious to and was unaware of because for the past five months, I thought everything was hunky dory and fine. In other words nobody was informing me, or basically doing THEIR job in letting me know what I was doing wrong. (For Five Months!)
Well, the past week, I’ve been doing what I was asked to improve. Things should be alright again right?
Well, apparently after the Manager went to another meeting this morning, they’re telling me now that I need to buy a car. (Ain’t going to happen)
I was hired not owning one and they knew it. I don’t believe that the Employment Standards Act would support any decision to let me go on such grounds, but anyway, I’m still thinking about getting some resumes ready because I’m getting the feeling that I’m being targeted by certain co-workers and that no matter what I do during the next 200 hours of probation, it is and will always be, not good enough.
I really like the job, and really hope that my luck turns for the better and I make it through the Probation period. This is the only Job that I have had in many, MANY years that I truly enjoy. But it’s the sad fact that since certain people are safe with their unionized position, that I’m the one who has to suffer, and it’s really not fair. I won’t be safe until or if I pass my probational period.
Unfortunately, the sad truth will probably result in me being let go. I really feel that this will be a unfair fact of the matter, and since I still owe EI (Another embarrassing story) I more than likely will not be entitled to any EI benefits.
Holy fuck I’m am gonna be sooooo screwed!
Depressing…

I don’t get it one bit. How is having a car going to help you in your job unless part of your job description is to deliver things? I think that would have been an issue that they wouldn’t have hired you for if it were so important and as you said, they knew that up front that you didn’t have one. Well, it’s always good to keep the resume up to date anyway, in case you need it. But I’m hoping you won’t and that you get past the probationary period. That just sounds way messed up. Are you sure it’s not because you show up to work naked or something?
October 7th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
@teeni – They’re (meaning the comment from bitch snitch as she stuck her nose in the manager and my conversation) saying that making deliveries with clients is part of the job. I can’t see how that can be since I’m always busy working in the kitchen.
I believe they’re just making shit up now. But if it were a major necessity, then they shouldn’t have hired me.
And wearing clothes is not an issue when you’re invisible to everybody.
October 7th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
What part of the job five months ago required that you have a car? And, when did it become apparent after 5 months that you didn’t have one? And, if its so important to do deliveries, is there not a vehicle available for such a purpose? Somebody’s pulling the bullshit on you.
You mentioned the big “U” word. That’s the real reason that you aren’t likely to last there. If you’re there beyond 6 months, they have to give 2 weeks written notice or 2 weeks pay to let you go. Before your first 180 days is up, you can be let go without any notice. It stinks! They just don’t want to offer you membership in their special laziness club.

@MrCorey – It’s a mixture of bad management, the U word, and not fitting in with the
inbible-thumping-gossip crowed, and I am not the type of person to let others shit on me who have to seniority over me.October 7th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
yeah, that really does sound like they are reaching for stuff. Let’s hope for the best but it never hurts to have your bases covered (resume ready).
October 8th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
John as I recall you were told at your interview that you would need a car and you told them you would get one.So this is not new info for you.So I really don’t think you have a leg to stand on with the Employment Standards Act.
MrCorey nobody is pulling bullshit on John at all.He knew what was expected when he was hired as he and I had a conversation about just this thing. And you are required to have a vehicle to transport your clients when needed. John obviously is not able to do that and from what he is saying now he has no intention of getting a car. My question to John is this. Why should they keep you if a vehicle was needed and you stated you would get one, but have made no effort to?
I really think they should have brought up this subject with you a long time ago. At least at your meeting last week.
October 9th, 2008 at 6:11 am
@Scamp – Actually the only topic on having a car in the Job interview was, “Do you have a car?”
“No.”
“Do you plan on getting one?”
“Eventually.”
“OK, it’s not necessary, but it would be an asset if you did have one in case it were necessary for you to drive a client home should one of be sick and there was nobody else available.”
Note the part I remember them saying, “It’s NOT necessary.”
I do plan on getting one, but nobody will finance me with only a few months at the job.
When I said, “Not going to happen.” I was referring to having one withing the next 200 hours of probation.
Unless somebody is willing to fork over a few $K or I win the lotto, I don’t see a vehicle in the near future.
As far as making Deli runs, I can’t see how that would be possible when I just barely manage to get my breaks as it is. I’m always busy in the back while Bitch face will sit around for 2+ hours stuffing her face. OH YEA 2+ hours yesterday!
I’m not saying I don’t like being busy, because I rather be busy. And besides, the topic of me making Deli Runs was NEVER brought to the table in my Job Interview.
And if it is soooo necessary to have a car, then why is another co-worker there still employed? He hasn’t had a car for the whole time he’s been there. And he doesn’t plan on EVER getting one either.
All I’m saying is, that they said it wasn’t a big deal if I didn’t have one. I never said I wasn’t getting one, it’s just not possible at the moment.
October 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Sounds pretty cut and dry to me John. You gotta stop whining about what everyone else is doing, and pay more attention to what you are doing. What everyone else does is their problem, not yours.
I’ve always assumed if an employer says anything would be beneficial to me, that means do it. right now its not about what he said she said, you should be in full on damage control mode, or you could lose the biggest and best opportunity you have ever had. I’ve known you a long time John, and if you’ve ever listened to anything i’ve ever said, make this it.
you work you drive deals, borrow 500 bucks from your parents to buy a clunker, do everything short of stealing a car to get one immediately. if i had one i didn’t need, i’d loan it to you, but you gotta do something. Don’t go down without trying.
October 9th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
@Uhh Yeah – It’s actually what other are doing that is causing the problems, all the while I am THINKING I am doing what I am supposed to do, and thinking everything is hunky dory. The other/s have been trying to get me fired for one thing, and I haven’t been informed till after five months that I haven’t been doing certain things on time. I have the time thing in check now BTW.
My folks wouldn’t have $100 to lend let along $500. LOL I’m in a financial crunch and I’m just managing to live paycheck to paycheck, so until I can get halfway out of the hole there’s really no room in the budget for a car and all the expenses that come with it, GAS, Insurance, and maintenance.
I really DO plan on getting a car, but like I said, I’m not financially able to at the moment. Even if I did manage to get a clunker, the expenses associated with it would not be in the budget either.
I’m just really strapped at the moment, but that will change as soon as I am finished crawling out of this hole that I dug and I fell into.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
i was actually referring to you talking about “Bitch face sitting and eating for two hours”
when i told you that you should stop whining about what everyone else is doing.
It sounds like you’ve already given up and are content to blame your problems on someone else like you always do. I’m done.
Later John. Good luck.
October 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I pointed out the Two Hours comment because if they’re so desperate for somebody to make a deli run, then why not have the person who’s sitting on their ass all day do it instead of asking a person who’s already swamped with their own work?
OH, I haven’t given up. Not by a long shot. And it IS somebody else’s fault because they didn’t do THEIR job and inform me about things I haven’t been doing, but instead they wait 5 months and it ends up with me in front of the big Bosses telling me they’re about to fire me because I haven’t being doing my job. So, YEA, it IS somebody elses fault.
October 9th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Uhh Yeah: said it right. And yes John you were told you would have to get a car. And maybe one of the complaints is you not having a car. Are could be watching you tweet on your cell will they are working . Leave your ^&%$ cell phone at home .
October 9th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
@Other Mac – They did not say I HAD to have one. I’m not the only one there who doesn’t have one. And those aren’t the complaints, as there are no complaints.
I can Tweet a txt message on any of the short 2 minute breaks that I take all I want.
There you go again, ASSUMIING you have a clue as to what the fuck is going on.
You are the best example of foot in mouth disease.
October 10th, 2008 at 6:36 am
My friend, you are like a lamb in a den of wolves. You’ve been nice and not written things down. They’re obviously taking notes and its time that you did as well. Write down all of the laziness that you see. Keep a journal. They obviously are. If you’re on the block, keep record of all of the shortcomings of those who are holding you down on it. If somebody is dragging everyone else down by sitting on their ass for two hours, write it down – start and end time. That way, when the time comes, you have your “little book of truths”. It sounds like it can’t hurt at this point. At least, then management would know a bit more about who’s really slowing down the machine.

@MrCorey – I have actually been taking notes. LOL, you must be tapping into my mind again. STOP IT!
October 10th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
You can call it whatever you want `foot in mouth disease` But I don`t assume anything. I train 10 new works a season. I`ve seen every type of worker and heard 1000`s of accuses. òh I didn`t know I was supose to do that. I run into 1 in 25 that have plan old common sence. 24 would stand around waiting to be told what to do. Will one would empty garbage cans he seen full will waiting. If you want to take your break and spend it texting messages, rather then talking to a co-worker. Be that guy that spells team with an I
October 10th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
@Other Mac – Yup, again, with the assuming that my job is somehow associated with yours. And I WOULD rather Txt Message rather than to listen to gossiping. Bunch of chicks talking about cloths, sluts, church, Jesus, and how hard they work.
My friend Har*@ is a great co-worker along with Vick*@ who is there to lend an insight to the workings of the office politics. They try to assure me that, it’s not a big deal, and I shouldn’t worry about it… but, I won’t be at ease till, I start seeing that Union fee being taken out of my pay.
October 10th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Bunch of chicks talking about cloths, sluts, church, Jesus, and how hard they work.
..hummm.. We read your bull of how hard you work your gossip. but I guess yours is constuctive or smarter and less boring … Too damn funny..

@MacBros – I will not! It fuels me to go on!

Talking about this is really getting old. being told I’m assuming when It dosn’t take a genius to see there going to use the car issue to can your ass. For someone that say he loves this job. Your not doing a damn thing to save it. Rather then bitch about a co-worker camplain that they said car was not needed. Talk to your co-workers ask what they dislike about you and change to fit in. Your the new guy on the block. And don’t give me any bullshit reply that I don’t know what I’m talking about. Because if you are as good a worker as you think you are . I would not be writing this.
