U Comment - I Follow

Sunday Jun 3, 2007

I follow linkI have implemented the do follow plug-in New Do-Follow Plugin on all my sites and I have been using it for the past 3 weeks. I hope this is something that is viral and everybody follows suit.

With the most recent comment spam filters there is really no reason not to implement this feature that will help fellow bloggers get some much needed link love.

What this plug in does is it removes the ‘tag=”nofollow” in all the links that are in the comments. So when you fill in your URL to your Blog the search engines will not be told to ignore your link because the no follow tag won’t be there to turn them away, thus increasing your PR ranking a bit.

I also believe this will encourage more commenting on blogs because if a person comments on a DO Follow site, they will get a reciprocating link back to them also! We all know what links to your site will mean in the long run right? Good Page Rank!

Hopefully Word Press will remove that no follow tag in their future versions, since the spam filters are working so good these days, but until they do, you may want to get a DO FOLLOW Plug-in like the one I use New Do-Follow Plugin.

It’s just something you can do for your fellow bloggers. If you are a ‘do follower’, then join this community.

UPDATE: May 20, 2008:

This site no longer uses the do-follow tag.

Unfortunately it was abused by those dirty bastards we know as comment spammers.

pointed out, using a wordpress plugin that strips the nofollow attribute out of your comments should hopefully encourage more folks to interact with your website.

It’s about time you started using it! :-w

June 3rd, 2007 | 9:34 pm

I didn’t know about it till 3 weeks ago.:-Wi

June 3rd, 2007 | 10:12 pm

the latest comment spam filters we have nowadays it’s safe to say that we can start to share the link love within our comments. Plus it will encourage more discussion on your posts now, since commenting means a reciprocating link back to your site. read more

I am checking you out ;)

Just a heads up… the other 2 sites dofollow was clearly working, on this post currently there are nofollow links… that might be ok if you are using a timer on them, but I have known a few sites that for some reason the dofollow plugin with the timer didn’t work correctly.

June 4th, 2007 | 4:32 am

Andy Beard, I just noticed that. Strange. But the link in the Avatar doesn’t have the nofollow tag so you still being followed. Not sure why it’s not taking the nofollow out of the name though?

Know of any other plug-ins I should try?

June 4th, 2007 | 10:03 am

I just use this no frills version

June 4th, 2007 | 10:14 am

Heh! I browsing your site right now. The Antispam Collateral Condolences is what I ‘m snatching. :D

June 4th, 2007 | 10:17 am

Andy Beard, that dofollow plug in did the trick. Thanks :worship:

June 4th, 2007 | 10:26 am

That other pluging ‘Antispam Collateral Condolences‘ to coexist with Akismet makes commenting wacky. It’s out of here.
I don’t have issues with Askismet anyway. I just delete them or let the program do it after a month.

If somebody can’t comment, there’s always my e-mail to tell me.

June 4th, 2007 | 10:27 am

Ymmv as they say - I am not what you could call a massive Akismet fan, so that is one I haven’t tested.

It is always possible to hack plugins to fix small problems

June 4th, 2007 | 10:37 am

Andy, I always say if it ain’t broke, then break it. err.. I mean fix it,..ummm. whatever how the saying goes. :D

June 4th, 2007 | 10:42 am

Are you sure it’s working correctly? My comments I leave here never show up in my Dashboard. I never thought anything of it though you didn’t want to follow. :-Wi

June 5th, 2007 | 8:22 am

I just pinged this page to Technorati - maybe it will show up but they are becoming better at detecting comments as opposed to real links in content.

All search engines discount links in comments to a certain degree even with Nofollow removed, but then they are known to heavily discount blogroll links that are sitewide.

June 5th, 2007 | 8:49 am

Glad to have another dofollow blog to visit!:-)

Your blog is already doing so well so this would be more of a “thank you” to your readers, I guess.

For those of us who are still trying to climb the page ranks, though, the dofollow movement is really beneficial. My blog which is just littlemore than two months old has gained enough momentum to be in the Top 100 Philippine Blogs. Hurray for DoFollow!

June 5th, 2007 | 9:48 am

Opal, what Andy said.

Manila Mom, I don’t mind sharing a little link love, just as long as it is returned. :D

I just wish I could get my Mac`s Opinion and MacBros` Reviews sites up there in the PR. :-Wi

June 5th, 2007 | 10:05 am

Do you use your siggy for those websites when visiting others? My Alexa is under 1m for both The Raw & The Cooked is a little over 700k, but I do visit others and use that url. I also added those blogs to my social network.

June 5th, 2007 | 10:14 am

Opal, I use this site as my signature still. I want a PR 6 at least. :D You know why I’m sure.

How does this “you comment i follow” works?

June 25th, 2007 | 12:37 am

mr. simplicity, it just means that I don’t use the nofollow tag in the comments. So when you put your link in the form the search engines will crawl from that link to your site.

June 25th, 2007 | 4:36 pm

I see lots of people started doing that and I support them because google doesn’t own the internet.

P.S. Just checked your webcam and it’s dead

The NoNoFollow movement is a great way to increase blog participation at the end of the day if you want to leave a comment the last thing you want is for it to be moderated by some backdoor piece of code. I for one have implemented the DoFollow plugin on my blogs and hope more people do so in the future.

July 22nd, 2007 | 10:11 am

Hi,

Everybody loves links. Even the google bot, but it dies not like non- genuine links.

For instance, some time ago, google had a controversy over following paid links.

Now for a spider or a crawler to identify the paid links from non-paid is almost impossible.

But in most CMS , including wordpress and blogspot, it is very easy to identify comments from content.

do - follow may go void, if google thinks so.

But still, it does good in the short term..

gio gio:

the plugin doesnt seem to work on my blog. im using a 2.0 version of wordpress. do i need to upgrade?

September 3rd, 2007 | 1:11 pm

gio, that question would be better answered by the author of the plug-in. But in my opinion, that you’re entitled to, is that you should always have an updated version of WordPress just for security reasons.

Blogger Blog Tips, ask the folks that are getting the free rank linkage.

September 14th, 2007 | 4:35 am

Cool plugin! Maybe I’ll try it some time:peace:

Neil Neil:

The good thing with dofollow links as oppose to nofollow, is that it can actual help a websites listings, Google will spider the site and realise that the content update, the more comments the updates which for your site as a whole is a very good way to encourage user generated content, the phenomenon of nofollow has been taken to strongly, people even try getting reciprocal links add a no follow to it, very sneaky. If your using wordpress make sure you install Askimet, this plugin will eliminate much of the spam from automated blogging programs, also look out for the occasional “I found your post very interesting and have similar views myself”, spammers are getting smarter so my thoughts are keep dofollow’s it can only do your site good, so giving a link away is your way of saying thanks for the free content.:)

September 18th, 2007 | 5:32 pm

The do follow is a good technique to increase the page rank.. But the page rank updation doesn’t prove to be proper and the pages with less traffic are allotted with page ranks greater than the pages with more traffic.. I cant get the working behind..??

October 15th, 2007 | 2:40 am

hi Macbros,

just to say congratulations for joining the “u comment i follow movement”. giving and sharing is the best part of living.

October 15th, 2007 | 10:34 pm

I just found out about this today and i was like wow!!!
so many blogs are joining this now
It’s great blog on guys.
I’ve made sure to show you some love on my end.

December 18th, 2007 | 2:03 am

I think it’s a great choice . . .

I’ll probably implement it on my blog when I wake up tomorrow (It’s 3:30am here in China!)

Jon

January 27th, 2008 | 3:28 pm

TechNomads, why bother? Nobody can comment on your site anyway. Plus this is a Wordpress plug-in. I don’t believe it will work with Joomla.

January 27th, 2008 | 4:44 pm

I think every one should use this plugin. I use it and I like everyone who uses it. It does nothing in preventing spam, so why does anyone use it?

February 19th, 2008 | 2:10 pm

Thanks for following, or at least allowing Google to do it :d

February 21st, 2008 | 3:11 pm

What some people do is following the links of their visitors and after they have enough comments in they switch to nofollow. That’s happened on serveral blogs I read with passion, but now I don’t comment on it.

February 23rd, 2008 | 8:41 am

I tried to go to the link given up there, but it’s not working. I was looking for this plugin, everywhere :((

February 28th, 2008 | 3:49 am

BaseGuardian, sorry about that. I’ve updated the links to an even better plug-in that I happen to be using.

February 28th, 2008 | 4:15 am

Do follow blogs are a win win situation. you get comments and tons of views and we get some link juice. btw i really like the southpark comments avatar. what plugin did you use for that?

March 14th, 2008 | 4:27 pm

I agree that some people will probably spam, but at the end of the day most commenters will not fall into this bracket.

A blog with no comments looks like a blog with no readers = uninteresting…!

May 20th, 2008 | 10:50 am

I’ve recently joined the do-follow revolution as well. I think it greatly adds to user commentary.

July 1st, 2008 | 9:47 am

@Carolina Panthers -Did you read the update in the post? I really don’t think you did because if you did you would know that I don’t use it anymore.

Or are you one trying to take advantage of a non-existent plugin?

July 1st, 2008 | 10:51 am

seems to me that it’d be just as easy to remove comments that are blatant spam.

July 6th, 2008 | 8:14 pm

Doesn’t seem to working (if you still are using it). Everything has a nofollow on it.

July 18th, 2008 | 4:20 pm

@online tv - That’s right! If you weren’t so busy link dropping on web blogs and actually READ this post, you would have seen the UPDATE stating it is no longer being used.

Let me refer you to THIS post as to why.

It basically states that it because of people like you that ruin it for the rest of us.

Deleted your URL too BTW.
