Web Hosting Wars! And Shameless Plug!

Top Hosting Center has used up all their excuses and have bitten into their last bullet. My client has had enough and put their foot down and demand that I move their site to another Hosting Provider.
They are a Business and depend on web site up-time and e-mail services in order to operate their business. And over the past few months there has always been an issue causing downtime.
The latest is that their e-mail server is in the spam directory and neither I nor my client can send or receive e-mails outside of our own domains. In other words, if I send out an email it will not get to whoever I send it t o, and if one of the forwarded address is trying to forward an e-mail to our ISP’s main e-mail address, it gets blocked.
Since they are trying to operate a business, e-mail communication is essential, and it has come to the point that the whole site be moved from their services. Which I can’t really blame them at all for doing so.
In my case, I’m on THC’s Rudolf plan and if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m just simply running a blog and a gallery and that I don’t have to pay anything for the rest of my life, I probably would be leaving also. But since I don’t have to worry about renewing every year since it’s Priced for life, I’ll be sticking with them and putting up with the inconvenience. Plus, I have to give them a thumbs up for speed, and the fact they can handle my website and not suspend it every time it gets busy with high traffic. I guess the term, “You get what you pay for.” surly comes into play here.
So if you’re looking for cheap hosting and aren’t running a business, I would recommend Top Hosting Center simply because their Rudolf plan is great for bloggers and the speed is also sweet.
So I went ahead and took a walk over to my Clients office and signed them up with Host Monster. I’ve was with them in the past and never had any issues like the ones we’ve experienced with THC. At least I know that my client shouldn’t have any e-mail issues or downtime. However, I say that with tongue in cheek because my experience with these guys was that my web site was too busy with traffic and I got that annoying CPU Usage ERROR message all the time. My site was continuously being suspended and I was furious when it would happen all the time. I’m talking several times a day. So I moved to THC because the price was right and there was no CPU Error.
If you’re not running a site that’s going to be using excessive SQL access then Host Monster is a good reliable hosting company. They’ve been around for a long time and they seem to know what they are doing most of the time. And since my client is using basic HTML and little PHP, there shouldn’t be an issue with CPU Usage Errors.
But this is not the end of all this crap. Usually the migration of domains takes up to 24 hours, but THC is going to take their time releasing it and causing a delay that is going to take till May 3rd. WTF?? I’m not impressed at all because they migrated my domains TO their Registrar withing 24 hours, but they’re going to take their sweet time giving my clients back.
Well, this didn’t go over well with my client. They cannot go without their e-mail, so apparently he got to talking to one of his friends that runs Red Cow Marketing and Technologies and they offered t o help out. That’s pretty kewel huh?!
My client explained what was going on and they offered to help out so my client told them to call me to get whatever info they need to help get the damn e-mail working and business can get one with the day. My client put a few plugs in for me too, that’s was nice of him. He knows that I have been trying to get a full time job working in web design but cant seem to get my foot in any doors.
I’m also sort of embarrassed that the only site I have to show off now is just the restaurant one and that was rushed and put up in under a month. Graphics, design, and everything by one person and very little time to do it. But when you think about the time it took to make it, it’s actually not that bad at all really. I just wish I had more time.
And on that topic, I wish I had my good PC up and running so I can get back on the horse and get back into my Photoshopping and web designing. Because this sucks not being able to work on anything. I hope I can pull all the files from that crashed Hard Drive that have all my design templates in them.
While I was on the website I noticed there is an opening for a Junior Web Developer. Guess what I’ll be doing here shortly?
I’m all over that like flies on stink!! I hope my client put in some really good words for me, because I’m putting his name in my references. LOL
Seriously though, I need to get into this line of work soon, because if I don’t, I’m going to fall behind and I’ll be out of the loop with the way web designing is going thee days. I know I probably could learn a lot more, but at least if I’m doing the job, I am more likely to catch on to the stuff I might be lacking in.
So there you have it folks. My opinion that you are entitled to as far as two web hosting services go, and a shameless plug to get my foot in a door. ![]()
Now off to update my resume.
